Whats the difference?

Is there a big difference with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS?
I find DTS produces a great sound. I can't say i've heard anything better, equal maybe, but not better.
Of course I'm talking DVD's that is.
FYI: I'm using Polk audio with Sony components DVD, etc...pushing 150w/x5 with a 200watt powered sub.
You could say the best poor man's set up. lol

i have some dd5.1 and dts movies and concert dvd's and some of the dd5.1 sound better then the dts and vice versa in my opinion
it has a lot to do with how well it was recorded and enginered.

At first dd dominated as the audio format for new dvd's and then dts started making a presence. When dts came on the market it was raved that it sounded better. (Anything new concept) Now there are still alot more dvd's in dd but some will have both. I read many dvd reviews before I buy them and it's still a torn subject. Many say the dd has a strong basser sound and dts seems to be a smoother crisp sound. But no one agrees that one or the other is a better sounding format. With the newer movies they need to stop being so skimpy and put out more 6.1's. , they rock. LATER:)

I think DTS sounds better, but only when it's a dedicated DTS disk. The combo DD/DTS DVD's sound the same to me.

DTS is the superior format - much better for 5.1 music.
For most movies - its pretty much a wash.
But, some movies that utilize DTS effectively (example U571 & Gladiators) - the DTS soundtrack is far superior.

Now, DVD-A vs SACD - the superior format is much more
difficult to ascertain.

If your movie has both DTS and DD -- I would always choose the DTS sound-track.
