View Full Version : [SOLD] Silver IC's

Normally I don't post these in the for sale, but I need to come up with some cash. I usually just do these by request. These are just like Kimber PBJ's but they are silver, and have better connectors. I have 2 pairs (32 inches)ready to go out. I don't post Polkie price on the internet. If you need a pair, or two shoot me a PM.
Thanks
Ben

Got my cables in. (I was out of town so I have technically had them for awhile, but they were just installed today - about 10min after I got home)
My system was blue jeans cable (1505f) from the cd player to the preamp and signal cable from the pre-amp to the amp. In comparison between signal and blue jeans cable, I found the signal better balanced and focused. The BJC were bloated in the bass and a little less focused image than the signals. (a good cable for home theater, but not 2 channel IMO)
I installed Bens cables from my pre to my amp. The sound was not as laid back (a good thing in my case) but sounded very congested (not a good thing). I was thinking it may have something to do with break-in.
On a lark, I tried swapping the BJC from my source to my pre with the now available signal cables. Still not as laid back (but not brite or harsh at all) and almost all the congestion was gone from the sound. I will reserve final judgement until I get a few more hours on the cables and can actually sit back and enjoy some music through them, but they definately work great with the LSi's. The congestion I heard at first was apparently due to Bens cables being much more revieling than the signals and putting a big ol spotlight on my systems weakest link. (the BJC)
So far I am very happy with the cables. The sound is great, (they image well, the sound is very balanced, and they do not seem to color the sound at all) once they break in, I will plan to replace the signals from my source to my pre with them as well.
Great job Ben and thank you,
Michael

No problem. They take about 20 hrs to clean up quit a bit, and at 80 hrs they will be about completely burnt in.

I also quickly received my pair, and installed them between CD, and pre. They were run in only briefly. These things are very quiet, at least in my application and less than perfect AC, RF environment. There was no grain out of the box (bag actually), and the first thing I wanted to hear was the coax to analog difference (the CA player outputs both simultaneously).
I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with it, but after one or two changes, on a brand new CD, it was evident that the cable made it very easy to tell between the analog out, and the digital out. Prior, it would take multiple switches, on well known tracks. In particular the top end of percussives were quicker and tighter. I hope this is a sign of things to come as I spin some more tunes through. I liked what I've heard so far. Thanks Ben.

Received my Silvers yesterday and put them on my source into the pre on the fronts. Nice cables, got some setup help from Ben and now I'm looking forward to getting these guys broken in.
First blush was apparent. Changes in the soundstage, tweets sounded livelier, a good thing...I felt the RDOs were a tad boring though smoother than the SL2000s.
I'll write up my impressions in another thread as they burn in. Ben says 80hrs. :)
Nice job Ben...great deal.

I reiterate, the only IC I've found that replaced Ben's are the MIT Shotgun IC series. That is a really good testament as to the quality and sound of his cables.

For sh%ts and giggles I swapped these out for a pair of Monoprice cables in my bedroom rig. The Monoprice cables sounded like garbage in comparison, muted highs, distant mids, and bloated bass. As Joe(HI) mentioned, the next step up from these are MIT Shotguns.

Actually this batch coming up is going to be orange(I justl ove the orange), white, and white. It's really hard to get this stuff. I can get stranded all day long, but the solid is hard to come by. The stranded just doesn't sound as good, and takes way longer to burn in.

I am very new to the cable thing. I have budget but decent amps and speakers and wondering about cable upgrades from my BJC ICs. Even though I am new to this forum, I have some experience at other forums and there are quite a few well repsected cable DIYers. So why one cable is better than the other? material of wire, solder, conductor, purity, gauge or the way cables are made?
From the reviews, it seems that it's a no brainer to buy from Ben, which I believe. but can someone educate me or give me some webpages to read. Basically, I want to enjoy the sound while understanding why my upgrades are better? Thanks
ben62670
08-22-2008, 02:03 PM
Well I only make one type of wire. Braided, solid conductor, silver, and Teflon jacket. These few things seem to be the best combo in an IC, or speaker cable for that matter. I tried different types of wire, and construction, but these yielded the best results that play nice with nearly any system. I spent almost a year researching different cables, and testing some of the more popular IC's out there and these are the ones that I am sticking with. I don't post Polkie price on here because this place has either taught me nearly everything I know about audio, or has pointed me in the right direction so I keep Polkie prices very low. As for web links just google;)
Happy hunting.

I don't have the information you are looking for. But I have owned both BJC and Bens cables. And Ben's Cables blow the BJC's out of the water. Much better detail separation sound stage and much much better bass(tighter).
Ben is also a great guy to deal with to boot.

Glad you like them. Install them between a CD player and pre for the burnin. It goes quicker with a full signal, and volume position doesn't make a difference.

I installed my last 2 pair between the pre and my Luxman (fronts) and the Carver (surrounds). I could have switched these with ones on the source side, but I'm just too lazy. I'll let them burn-in there. As usual I noticed an immediate difference. It actually tamed a bit of harshness on my fronts when I pulled out the Corals. I hadn't noticed it. My surrounds(2Bs) came alive. I noticed a bit of vibrato on strings that I hadn't heard before...could have always been there or it could be these need to burn in. Vocals, percussion and other instruments sound right. I listen to alot of MCH.
These cables are a great system tweak. I probably am getting more of a push than alot of you guys, since I only had 2 pairs of decent ICs before.
