View Full Version : All New Rock/Pop/Jazz Vinyl List (7 June)

It's complete and it goes onto the end of this thread at 2230 EST tonight.
Pricing commiserate with availability and condition. Some I paid through the nose for, some I stole.
And if it says "looks unplayed" or "appears unplayed" that's just what it means. The guy or gal opened it up, said "Yup, there's vinyl in there" and never touched it again.
$3 each, 6/$15 (unless marked higher). $15 minimum for shipping.

Ill take these
George Benson – Take Five (Absolutely pristine CTI previously released as “Bad Benson” around 1973 or 74. I had that on vinyl and now have it on disc. This was probably his last release before he hit it big with Breezin’ and This Masquerade. You want this disc for every song BUT “Take Five”. This is a great recording. “The “air” coming off his guitar strings during “Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams” is a real you are there thing. It’s also a big, fat, LUSH SDA soundstage when the orchestra kicks in. “My Latin Brother” is great and so are all the other songs. W/Phil Upchurch, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd and Kenny Barron. I’m a schmuck. I used to have Phil Upchurch and Ron Carter albums. Kenny Barron was part of Buddy Rich’s small band.) $15
George Benson – Body Talk (Another absolutely pristine CTI from the early 70’s. Anybody familiar with CTI knows the covers alone are almost worth the POA. I never had this album so I can’t elaborate further. I just know I never expected to find these, let alone in museum condition. This will never happen again.) $15
Duran Duran – Rio (fingerprints)
Duran Duran – 7 & The Ragged Tiger (fingerprints)
Emerson, Lake, Palmer – Works Vol.1 (shiny pristine double appears unplayed) $15
Glenn Frey – No Fun Aloud (couple fingerp’s and a couple extremely light scr.)

Yeah, I looked her up and she was a looker. Seems like good Martini (or Manhattan) sippin' music. I just love surprise packages btw!!
Also, if its just lying around with no home, i'd be appreciative if you threw in the Best of Righteous Bros. with the good cover, bad vinyl. I plan on picking up a copy off of the 'Bay and if you have a nice clean cover well...

There's a place that's diagonally across the street from The Shorebird. I don't know the name of it. If you put your back to the beach and walk out the hotel The Shorebird is in, the place is across the street and to the right. I have suffered a MaiTai induced coma there a hundred times. Go back for the $1.99 breakfast in the morning.
Remember the Jolly Roger breakfast places that used to be all over Waikiki?
Ted, I never took The Righteous Bros. home, but will keep it in mind.

The Shorebird is in the Outrigger Waikiki Reef Hotel on Kalia Rd. I think you might be referring to the Irish Rose Saloon on Lewers St. George. Businesses come and go and Hotels change names so fast down there it'll make your head spin. The best Mai Tai I ever had is at the Hano Hano Room a top the Sheraton Waikiki. Just 2 of those and you're flyin' & they go down so good. Hmmmm, Birthdays coming up. I may be able to talk the wife into being the designated driver for the occassion. :)
George Grand
06-08-2008, 01:54 PM
Yes, it was at the foot of Lewers, across from Denny's. There was an outdoor portion of the bar at street level that took up the entire corner of the block. I think the Mai Tais were a dollar cheaper inside, but you couldn't watch the foot traffic from in there.
I have a load of shipping boxes enroute and they should be here Monday. Shipping for this most recent load starts Tuesday.

06-08-2008, 02:21 PM
Oh yeah, I know the place. Been there a couple times. Can't recall the name. Used to be a guy there that played acoustic guitar and covered Jim Croce songs. He was very good. This was 2 or 3 years ago and drinks were $2.00 IIRC.
George Grand
06-08-2008, 03:10 PM
That's the place. The Islander Coffee Shop on the same side as Denny's on Lewers used to make a fresh daily orange bread that was absolutely incredible. Slice it up and toast it, then put a little BOTTLED coconut syrup on it. Holy shit that was good. There's a couple times I really didn't want to go to Hickam, but the lure of that bread ....... The last time I was there, he told me he stopped making it on 9/11. I asked what the significance was, and there didn't seem to be any. He just stopped making the orange bread.
Damn I almost forgot. You ever go to Harry's Underwater Bar in the underground parking lot of the place with The Shorebird? I still have a bumpersticker! It closed years ago but it was a pisser when it was open. When you sat at the bar, the entire view in front of you was a giant window that looked under the water in the hotel pool. Sit there getting destroyed watching all the newlyweds play grabass and shit.

LMAO! One bar I somehow missed George. Damn, that must've been a hoot! About what year was this? I've lived here since 1980. If it was around back then I'm surprised I didn't know about it. After I got out of the Army in 83 I took a job driving limos and small passenger vehicles in Waikiki. Worked it for about 5 years. Thought I knew every nook and cranny of that place. LOL That's some funny shit. I was more hardcore back then maybe. Used to hang out with the boys at some of the more "exotic" places on Keeaumoku. Man, those were the days. ;)
George Grand
06-08-2008, 04:39 PM
They sure were the days man. Driving around loonies who want to throw away all inhibitions for a few days is my kind of job. At least it would have been for me back then in the pre-marraige, pre-AIDS days and stuff. I salute you, that must've been great for a young guy. Get a lot of business over by The International Marketplace at about 4 AM? Those sure were the days.
Last time I was in that parking lot, the room that housed Harry's was still there, but turned into an Auxiliary Room or something. Ask one of the old-timers. Great place.
How about the Kitty Kat up behind Ala Moana? I know you made a few drop-offs there. I think that was the name of it. First place I ever saw w/shower stall.
Keiko
06-08-2008, 05:23 PM
Waikiki has changed some through the years. The whole island actually. So many people on this little rock George I'm certain some days it's just going to sink. Traffic is such a pita and I don't stray too far from the windward side unless I have to. I avoid going into town as much as possible now. The cost of living has always been high here but like a lot of other places in the country, it's just getting ridiculous now. Gangs and crystal meth are becoming more an issue these days to. Still, this is home and it's one of the most beautiful places on the planet. e komo mai.
A lot of the driving I did were Hotel transfers to and from the airport. Cabbies, I'm sure got to do most of that other fun stuff. LOL! I did tours also. Circle island trips, Hanauma Bay, Polynesian Cultural Center and transfers to and from the Arizona Memorial. Most of that catered to newlyweds, retirees and families on vacation. Tips used to be great but after 5 years it just got repetitious and boring. Kitty Kat or the Classic Cat? (Where the pussies purr)
I used to go there for the $5.00 pitchers and ;) "live" ;) entertainment. Wahines were like liquid hot magma. Closed their doors years ago.
George Grand
06-08-2008, 05:58 PM
Klassic Kat? The place with the shower stall. Many, many years. Early 80's. I was in there with chief police/Independence Township, NJ. He still is. That just might be the last time I had a beer also. On that same trip, we were sitting down to dinner at Pieces of Eight on Lewers. "The Chief" took a swig of his pre-dinner MaiTai, and up through the straw came a tiny piece of glass that he managed to notice amid the crushed ice. Free rounds of drinks while we were there, and The Chief ate free. It's gone too.
The first trip I made to Hickam was in 1979. The latest, 15-19 May 04, with a stop in Sioux Falls on the outbound leg. The island has changed immensely during that time. Small mom & pop places taken over by the big boutiques. More people. Still a paradise though.
Keiko

Might of been spelled Klassic Kat George, but yes, as I recall there was a shower stall. Had many a good times there. My brother in law is not a drinker but I got him ripped in there one night. I remember Pieces of Eight to although I never dined there. That was a loooong time ago.

You got it Tedwick!
Checks came in today from Keiko and Fongolio. Thanks guys.
Mike, to answer an earlier question, Harry's Underwaterbar had to be open in 1980. We discovered it on the May 1980 trip, and Mt. Saint Helens blew its top while we were on Oahu. They kept us there another 5 days (downtown at the Outrigger West I think, or Outrigger Surf) so we wouldn't have to fly through the debris on the way home. Total of 9 days downtown on Uncle Sugar. We had a navigator on that trip who was as looney as the day is long. Hard drinker too. One afternoon he drags me down there with a "Come on, I gotta show you something." Walking down into that parking lot I was kind of worried about what he wanted to show me, cause Dennis was REALLY heavily salted, but it turned out okay (that time). How he found Harry's I'll never know, cause I never asked him WTF he was doing down there to begin with. We didn't live in that hotel.
Keiko
06-10-2008, 07:08 AM
I'd be concerned to G if some guy wanted to drag me down into a basement saying he has something
to show me. :p Leave it to a salted loon. :D
Glad the check made it to you so quickly George. WoW! That was fast.

...Irish Rose Saloon on Lewers St....
The Irish Rose! That place is awesome! If they still have the board up, you go in there and you can see all the squadron and unit stickers from the Navy and Air Force guys. But there are quite a few from our testing events too. They all had a name. Look for Stellar Impact and Stellar Eagle, I stuck those two stickers up there if they are still there!
I still got my shirt that they gave me for free and a free drink token. I was a regular in that bar for 2 years running. Great place and unless they moved on, three of the bar tenders were displaced Jersey boys and one was from Warminster, PA I think it was? Don't remember for sure but it was a slice of home 5,000 miles away. When you're on site for 2-3 months at a time a familiar place is a good thing.
They just remodeled I heard which is why I'm wondering if the board is still there.

It's very popular with the service guys George. Cool place to kick it, enjoy a cold brew and classic rock.

I know exactly where it is, and exactly why I never hung around there. Moose's neither.

Moose's is a chain deal. They are all over California too. OK for a decent burger or quick bite and a brew but nothing to write home about.
But is the glass panels above the bar are still there, that is where all the unit stickers and stuff are. You can see the panel in this picture, has a Budweiser sign above it.

Ok, since you are trying to move them in order to get the new list up I'll bite. Add these to the others you are holding for me:
Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells (absolutely shiny pristine) $10
Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean (pristine)
Jean-Luc Ponty - Imaginary Voyage (needs LIGHT cleaning, not a scratch)
Jean-Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messenger (needs cleaning, fingerprints)
Procol Harum – Procol Harum ( Gorgeous w/Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador)$5
Yes - Drama (needs slight clean, then pristine) $4
And if you happen to come across the ones I mentioned in an earlier post that I have been looking for....well...you know. A couple more I really want:
Heart Little Queen
Elton John Captain Fantastic
Billy Joel Turnstiles
Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat

No idea where it may go but at that price probably a pretty good investment if the majority is as stated.
