Once upon a time, they sold a $20ish analog one, but now it's a $50 digital one.

They very well could have sold for $20 at one point, but if he bought it new for $25, that plus shipping is more than fair.

The analog one was 39.95 through the 80's, now $49 for the digital. It also almost never went on sale and when it did it was $29 - $10 off. Also if you get one use this chart to get the real results.

I would go with the Velleman. That is about the best you are going to get for the price. And you don't need one of the digitial ones; I actually prefer the analog.
