Best sound experience-any format

Thanks for the new forum!

I would like to hear from my follow forum members on the topic of what sound experience you were most impressed with on your home system, regardless of format.

For me, I particulary noticed

Santana Supernatural-DVD
Roger Waters-Amused to Death-cd
Oh Brother-dvd
Pink Floyd-The wall-DVD
Resevoir Dogs Soundtrack-cd

A few among many, but these stand out in my mind.

I look forward to hearing from everyone. This includes the purist 2 channel only opinions.

The Buddy Rich Big Band. Normal cd called "Big Swing Face". Recorded in 1965 or 1966. Either of the cuts Norwegian Wood, or Love for Sale will suck the air out of your chest on my straight stereo He-Man rig. You'll have that with eight 12" woofers and two 60" long ribbons. Each speaker fed by a 1,000 watt monoblock amp. Thanks for asking.

I really like the 6.1 formated. Gladitor was killer. Don Henley has a concert performance in DTS that is amazing. Just bought the new 7dust dvd and it rocks. Oh for you old people or just musicly challenged that's a rock band. CD-s depeche mode 101 is a has a great muli-channel live sound to it but not much bass.LATER:)

Local dealer, Hillcrest Hifi. Low lights, quiet a/c, leather easy chairs......

Krell 300c amp, KAV 280-cd, Rotel RC1090 Pre, Audioquest cables, B&W Nautilus 801, Dave Matthews - Crash, with my wife sitting next to me. The first time she 'heard' a difference....a real 'wow' scenario.

(Side note, I had RT800's at the time, which I paid 800 or so for....)

wife (looking at salesman after demo)'How much?'

salesman 'Twelve'

wife looks at me and asks 'Why did you pay 8 for the Polks, when these are only 12?'

me (raising one eyebrow) 'Thats Twelve THOUSAND babe......'

wife 'ohhhh.......'

You know, out of all the cd's I own (1,000 or so), only about 700 are rock bands. Guess I'll have to pick up a few more.

Best movie I've seen for good work out of my system was ‘U-571’ in DTS of course. It also reminds me of the road to Seaside Hieghts(Rt.571), what a meat market. To be young again. ‘Black Dog’ was another good movie which had sound coming from all directions at times with quick scene changes during the action parts. Other favorite movie that I could watch any time is ‘The Last Boyscout’. Music stays in the 2 channel mode. Aerosmith ‘Toys in the Attic’ songs ‘Uncle Salty’ ‘Last Child’. Motely Crue was always a favorite even with the makeup and big hair they had good music IMO, the grls always loved it.

My first stereo sound experince that was truly remarkable was when I got my SDA-1C set up properly. Holy shit! Everything I had heard was true! The Doors really kick ass on those 1C's.

On the HT side, I would definitely have to say that U-571 in DTS was the first movie that really opened my eyes to what could be going on in a surround system.

In High School my brother bought an Onkyo Pre/Amp and an Onkyo CD player along with a pair of Boston Acoustics A100's. The first CD I listened to was Boston "Third Stage" That is my most memorable experience in stereo..That is still one of my favorite CD's.

DTS sent me two demo discs the other day, one DVD and the other is DTS CD, man... the stuff they have on the two disc are amazing (half of dozen demo movies on the DVD and almost a dozen of various kind of music for DTS CD.. I wish I can share them with all of you...;) Hey, Micah, you know what I am talking about, your guy should already have these discs...

I have my digital cable hooked up to an Outlaw 1050 receiver...
Band of Brothers is intense.. better than almost any movie i have seen sound wise.. and the last 2 episodes have been incredible.

anyone without HBO (and without a digital signal) is completely missing out on the best entertainment event out there, hands down.

i know you can order these demo discs from both DTS's and Dolby's website, they are usually like $12-15 a peice. they make great demos. unless micah is feeling generous, he can just send out a bunch of those laying around in his office:D

but i do have a digital output via a coaxial RCA ouptut. My receiver has 3 digital inputs - 2 optical and 1 coaxial RCA. It is a Pioneer digital receiver.

I have to amend my comments about Band Of Brothers... while it is very good in 6.1, it cannot touch the sound from Saving Private Ryan, as far as war scenes go...

But (and please don't hate me :( ) the most pristine CD I have ever heard is Michael Jackson's "Bad"... it is astounding... and at least it's from his "I'm not completely weird yet" stage...

Check the back of your Digital Converter Box and look for an optical audio output or a Coax digital output (sometimes labeled SPDIF). Connect one of those to your receiver (along with the analog lines because not everything is broadcasted in digital audio) and you should be set to go...

Amen Brotha. Same song, speakers werent as nice... they were the CDM series by B&W. fed by a Denon 5803. Man that is one killer song. Gonna go play it right now. Mike
