Okay people I need some help. I understand the PS3 is bluetooth and will not work with the IR Harmony 880 remote. I got a Nyko Blue Wave IR remote and I am having a hard time setting this up with the Harmony.

Will this remote turn on the PS3? Where on the harmony website do I go to set this up right:confused: Or in other words how do I program this Nyko into the harmony?

I have the same issue.

As I understand it, nothing else will turn on/off the PS3 other than the bluetooth remote or game controller. You have to get up to put the disk in anyway, so might as well turn it on/off then.

I think you may have to teach the harmony the Nyko codes, as the Nyko is probably a generic or not registered type of system.

I'd be curious to know as well. I could figure it out, but I just haven't had the time.

Sure you could:rolleyes: If you have time to answer this post you have time to work on a solution to our problems.

Just jokes!:p

****ty thing:

You CAN NOT nor will you EVER be able to turn the ps3 on and off using the ir remotes that have the usb dongle. The wiring just isn't there internally on the ps3 to make it possible. There currently is only one good option for ps3 with universal and that is this:

Keep watching as they are still being manufactured one at a time by hand. I checked every day till I was able to get in on a pre-order and I now have one. Have yet to try it out, but all the codes are already online for it to work with harmony. The nice thing about this gizmo is that it will transfer all your codes from IR to BT and it is meant for the ps3. This means that the ps3 will "think" that the controller is sending the codes to turn it on, off, etc.

I think i remember finding the info for the nyko dongles somewhere in the forums on the harmony website. Do some digging and I'm sure it will come up in there somewhere.

I just set up my mx-700 remote to this: http://ir2bt.com/cart/.
It works as advertised.

Once your remote is plugged in and you're on Harmony's site go to "Devices" and select "Add Device". Go to the drop down menu and select "Game Console (with DVD)" then select "Nyko" under the manufacture option. Enter the model # and update your Harmony. The only thing you cannot do is turn the PS3 on/off.

This is what you need to be able to use your Harmony with the PS3 and they have a adapter that allows you to turn it on and off. From what I have read on the AV forums it works very well. Hope this like helps you out. http://www.schmartstuff.com/

I still can't figure out how to turn off the PS3 with the blu-ray remote, much less worry about programming my Harmony to control it. How do you turn off the power with the blu-ray remote? I always walk up to the unit and power it off with the button on the console.

To turn of the PS3 push the 'Playstation' button on the game controller or the remote, it will bring up a menu on screen. From there you can chose 'system off'.

Thanks. That makes it a bit easier.

It's off topic but does anyone know how long the 2.36 update takes after you say ok to the install? I've had a blank screen for 30 minutes so far.

That seems a little long. Most other updates were 10 minutes start to finish. I haven't done the 2.36 as I decided to wait for the 2.4 coming up.
Hopefully you won't have to do a full reset and end up back at square one.

I think I'm going to reset.

The non compatibility with a universal IR remote is a key factor in my decision to hold off of the PS3 for now. My brother in-law has a PS3, along with a Harmony remote, and the Nyko IR dongle remote, and there is no way to power On or Off the PS3 without using the PS3 controller, or manually pressing the power button on the game console itself.

The PS3 wants to be an all around media console, yet the lack of an IR receiver port has lead to the inability to fully integrate it into people's home system.

my ir2bt works flawlessly. my harmony 659 switches many different pieces of gear and turns on/OFF the ps3 without me breaking a sweat.
