I have a Harmon Kardon HK3485 receiver.

Connected to it:
- HD DVR Cable Box into "Video 1 Input"
- Blu Ray into "CD Input"
- PC into "Video 3 Input"

All of these worked and still do. However, I just threw out an old pair of Bose which connected to "Video 1 Output". Everything operated smoothly. Today I just got a pair of LSi9's and was hooking them up with speaker wire yada yada. Hooked them up perfectly, however no sound came out of them until I plugged my Cable Box into "Main Amp Input". From there I could only control volume levels through my cable box and not my reciever. Furthermore, I couldn't get any sound on any other input, only cable.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong here? I just want to be able to control my volume level on my reciever and through all sources. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Something hooked up through a tape loop or the tape loop button is selected?? (shot in the dark here)

Speaker A or Speaker B not selected??

No tape loop, and Speaker A is selected. Its boggling me because this is about my 5th setup to connect and have never had any sort of problem!

When I watch cable tv I hear the audio via an optical cable running from my digital cable box to my receiver.

When in doubt, disconnect everything.

Hook up speakers and play a radio station - work or no?

Hook up next item and test (including radio)

Hook up next item and test (including radio and 1st item)

Keep going until you are done. Pain in the ass I know, but often times it ends up being faster than looking for a random setup gremlin.

Just tried using the radio on the receiver and didn't get any sound out of the speaker. Now what do I do?

Only time I got sound was when the cable audio input was in the "Main Amp Input".

its ok i guess. Its a temporary set up just to break in the speakers a little bit. cant permanently set these up for another 6-8 weeks.

You said you plugged your cable box into "main amp input". In order to do that you would have had to remove the jumpers connecting pre-amp outputs to main-amp inputs thereby severing the connection between the pre-amplifier and the amplifier. I believe the pre-amp / amp comes with the jumpers from the factory. Do you have the manual?

reset the HK to factor defaults if you can. Sounds like maybe you have something configured incorrectly in the settings?

I aborted mission, just wanted to fire them up for about 10 minutes to make sure they run and sound good, which they do. And yes, I did remove the jumpers to Main Amp in, that was the only way I got sound.
