Hello Forum,

My first time posting...I have a question about my current setup; just want to make sure I have everything set up right...

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD10A Blu-ray player going HDMI OUT (for audio and video transfer) to an Onkyo TX-SR605's HDMI IN (1) (this receiver is HDMI 1.3a, so it can accept the high definition audio and video over the interface)...from there, a second HDMI cable is going from the 605's HDMI OUT to my Sony KDS-50A2020 SXRD HDTV's HDMI IN (Video 6)...that's it...no other connections of any kind from the player to the receiver or to the TV...

Is this all set up right for being able to pass all audio and video from the Panasonic through the Onkyo (for audio processing) and then off to the Sony (for video)? Everything else has been set up right -- the calibration levels inside the Onkyo, the HDMI assignments...should HDMI MONITOR be set to YES in order for the receiver to pass the video to the display?

I have many other questions, but these should do for now...thank you to any Polkies that can help!

that appears to be right. are you getting a picture and sound from your receiver? how is the picture on your TV display?

Thanks, Danger!

Yes, I am getting picture and sound; and my TV is confirming "1080p" coming over as the incoming HDMI resolution...just wanted to be sure it was all connected right...

As for the picture, well, that's another thing...upconverted DVDs on this Panasonic Blu-ray player are ATROCIOUS at 1080p; they just look horrible. Blu-rays look okay, but still, they don't knock me out the way they should...I'm not sure if it's my SXRD display, the BD player or my receiver "degrading" the video signal somehow before it's passed to the TV...

try bypassing your receiver and going straight from the Blu Ray player to your SXRD display.. and see if there is any difference. I would think the Blu ray picture quality would knock your socks off.. most all BD i've seen looked really good to me.

Upconverted DVD's should also look really good.

Unfortunately, this Panasonic Blu-ray player carries the Sigma chip and it's been known to be problematic for upscaling/deinterlacing/scaling; the player just sucks as a DVD player. Looking to get into a new Blu ray player now that bitstreams the new surround codecs and upscales well.
