WARNING: PS3 2.40 Firmware Upgrade !!

Looks like the latest (or what was the latest) PS3 firmware upgrade is causing boatloads of boot crashes.

"As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3."

Hope they get the bugs worked out; looks like Sony finally got onboard with the "Trophy" thing.

The firmware was online for less than 12 hours. Only about 5% of people who actually downloaded it had problems and even fewer systems were completely bricked. No problems here. They are supposed to be releasing 2.41 any day now.

I just upgraded the firmware on mine. I didn't see or experience any problems yet. I'll keep an eye out.

I watched Game Day with The Rock Disney movie on blu Ray and no problems there at least.

I had some major problems, complete lockup but eventually resolved them on my own.

I remember seeing the 2.40 update available, but didn't download it. Later that day, went to do so, and it was gone. This was I believe last Monday.

Since then they've released a new update. This one should be more stable, so no worries.

2.4.1 has been out for days now.

Yes, you're right, v2.41 is out.

I tried finding what firmware version was on my sons' PS3 and ...... couldn't find it. :o

I asked him today, and he said they had had v2.40, there were some slow down issues, but no major lockups. They're running v2.41 now.

I don't play either the PS3 or 360, but .... sitting side by side ...... whew !
The 360 looks like it's from "Toys R' Us" and the PS3 looks like it's from .... not "Toys R' Us".

Not starting a console war, just hoping that Sony gets their online ducks all in a row.

Did the 2.41 last night. Took a while. must be a little more info than the last couple I've installed. Everything turned out okay.
