i put a profile ap2000 amp in for a guy - i know i know - profile - anyway - the thing worked great for a day - then it popped all the fuses and started kinda smokin - so he unhooked everything

now it smokes and pops the fuses everytime you put power to it

A ground loop your 12v wire is touching ground "I would check were it comes threw the fire wall". Or the ground wire is touching 12v wire. The first one is what I would think is going on. But Check all power wires.

First off, nothing wrong at all with Profile. They are probably the best entry level brand of amps on the market.

Second, as mentioned, its likely a wiring problem. Something is shorting out somewhere.

could a bad ground also cause it?

alright - so all the wiring looks good - the ground wire was a little loose - so i tightened that - everything was working great after the initial install - then the guy turned everything up - gain and boost - the the amp blew all the fuses and smoked...
now everytime i put power to it the fuses blow - do you guys think the amp is fried???
i am going to move the amp to my car on my wiring and see how it does - i am still a little scared to move my amp to his car in case i did miss something in his car

It is blowing fuses because there is a ground loop some were. Also were are they being blown the amp or on the in line fuse under thee hood?

my take is a fried amp.

the fuses are being blown on the amp itself - all four 25 amp fuses - under the hood is still fine - i will install the amp in my car today - we'll see how that does

Just a guess here -

Maybe something is shorted inside the amp?

Do you have the opportunity to get a new unit? That might be your best bet as smoke is never good.

had the same problem with an oldschool mtx blue thunder amp. I let my friend boprrow it got it back and it did the same thing your talking about. It was the amp that was fried some caps inside actually popped.

i sent in the form to millionbuy.com for a return authorization - hopefully everything will go alright with the return - if not it's his money not mine - he should have left it alone
