You can get them cheaper but that's a very fair price for one that doesn't have any issues. I've had to do nothing to mine. I had to send both my tfm-45 & 42 in for service for minor issues that cost about $200 each to have done.

Just remember; unless it's been serviced by a QUALIFIED Carver technician, the caps & other internals on these amps are now 20+ years old & may not last much longer. $450 for one that has been serviced is really pretty darned good. Lots of folks have paid a ton for ones that are about to take a dump....you never know unless you know the seller or you have the service done yourself....

And a technician who doesn't know about the triac on a Carver amp can blow the entire thing sky high...

The M1.0t was very conservatively rated; they can run up to 600 wpc for "musically significant" periods of time..in the manual, I believe it says @ 30 minutes....

They don't make a LOT of things anymore, what does that have to do with anything? They are the opposite of rare.

I know the story behind the amp, it's supposed to sound like the CJ Premier 5. While I've not owned the Premier 5, it doesn't sound like ANY of the CJ amps that I HAVE owned.

The only Carver amp I ever had that I was happy to sell was the M1.0t.

The M1.0t owners manual specs were:

200wpc continuous into 8 ohms 20-20K
500wpc continuous into 4 ohms 20-20K
1000wpc continuous bridged mono into 8 ohms 20-20K
350wpc continuous into 8 ohms @ 1kHz

The brochure that prominently featured the M1.0t had verbage along the lines of "peak power for momentary musical transients is up to 800 watts per channel." That brochure also made a big deal about the amp being able to deliver 350wpc continuous into 8 ohms, but never hinted that kind of power wasn't available anywhere but 1kHz. There was also verbage about one channel being able to "borrow" power from the other channel if needed, and I never really knew what to make of that. I like Carver amps. Just not that one. And the turn on/off thumps were wicked with that amp. Worst I've had with any amp ever. I didn't trust that amp at all, and that is really not flattering coming from a Carver amp fan. The accomplishment in Santa Fe being a whole different facet, I felt this amp was poorly put together and maybe even an inferior product. And I squinted every freakin' time I turned it off or on. You shouldn't have to do that.

I have 3 carvers and the m1.0t is the only one I haven't had to send in for a thump or any kind of repair. It has a minor hiccup which doesn't bother me a bit and isn't getting any worse.

I can't honestly say that I had it around long enough to make any observations other than those thumps are killing me. They were kind of thump/cracks. There was definitely some high-frequency activity in there along with a thump.

Another thing I thought about a few times in my life, but it doesn't keep me awake nights anymore is:

That is one of the few Carver amps with a THD rating other than "not greater than .5%" or "Less than .5%"
The owners manual rates it at .15%, same as the M-500t rating. If the M1.0t was voiced to sound like C-J tube monoblocks, why doesn't it have a THD that is more like a tube amp? I don't need a technical answer cause they make me fall asleep now.

Mine has been gloriously dependable ever since I got it new - no thumps - ever.

Still going strong in my HT setup now.

I've had more Carver amps than you can imagine, and that was the only one that didn't cause me any afterthought when I sold it.
