Someone posted an on-line calculator which allowed you to input the room dimensions and it tells you where to place the stereo speakers. I forget the name of the method and can't find the post. Anyone remember?
Thanks,

Has anybody ever ran across a calculator that takes into consideration a vaulted ceiling? I have yet to run across one.
This might help, it mentions placing your speakers at the larger side of the room: http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=insights&content_id=36&pagestring=Room+Setup+10

Is there something like this for a multi-channel setup?

I tried placement of the horns using the calculator. It sounded OK is about all I can say. I was hoping for something glorious. Oh well, on the website it does say something about this being all you need to know about rectangular rooms and box speakers.

How big a room? I thought it sounded just ok too, liked the sound better before I used the calculator...seemed like the speakersd were too far into the room

I used this formula in my rectangular room when it was basically empty and it sounded fantastic. Once the new den furniture arrived, I couldn't get the magic back.
A few days later I went to pick up my new amps and the guy I bought them from is a hard core audiophile. He had a huge, acoustically damped room with only a single chair in the middle of the floor and a pair of DIY speakers. It was, by far, the best sounding system I ever heard. That's when I realized how much the room plays a role in the sound.

The open area is 21w x 32d.
What it sounded like to me was that with the speakers in the suggested position the room disappeared completely. I guess this could be ok but I think the room can add something good. How non-audiophile of me. :)
