Looking at purchasing a Carver M-500 to drive my SDA's, however I was told that it is NOT a common ground amp. Is there any chance that I can tie the grounds together?

I would ask that same question on the Carver forum. You could build an A1.

Which version of 2's are they?

If you have the blade/blade interconnect I have an AI-1 for you to use, too.

IIRC, I never got a definitive answer as to wether or not I could strap the grounds of the amp together. Lemme dig through some old posts of mine and see...

I wasn't aware that you could use the AI-1 with blade/blade. I don't have the compendium in front of me. But there are very specific models of early 1C's and 2B's that will work with the AI-1 cable. There maybe a work around if your 2B's or 1C's don't fit in the serial number range you can call Polk for further assistance.

Other models prior to these will not work with the AI-1 cable. This is mostly from memory so I reserve the right to correct my statement but I won't be able to EDIT it later on.

What SDA model do you have?

I have the 2B. In my case, I could use the AI-1 by connecting (I think) the smaller blade to the negative input terminal of the speaker. I don't have the compendium handy, either, but going by memory that was the only difference in the schematic between the pin/blade and the blade/blade versions.

Mine are the original 2's, not "a" or "b". They have the blade/blade interconnect. I need to find my copy of the compendium. I seem to have misplaced it :(

You could contact Polk (Ken); but you can't use the AI-1 cable. Not sure on the common ground issue with the Carver; hopefully you'll get the info you need

IIRC, there a few very early blade/blade 2B's that can be done this way but there weren't a lot of them before they switched over to the pin/blade. I swear I'm going to make a .pdf file of my compendium so I can have digital access all the time.

Looking back through my posts, it was the large blade that got connected...

Sounds familiar to me as well.

I personally would stick with a tfm- or a m1.0t or a m1.5t.
