I was in a semi local Hi Fi shop a couple of weeks ago and there was a guy there having his turntable (Pro Ject 9.1 IIRC) tweeked by the in house guru. To make a long story short the guy said that if you have your turntable set up correctly you do not need any anti-skate force.

My TT (Pro Ject Xpression III) has the weight on the monofilament line as the anti-skate device. So I disconnected the anti-skate devise about two weeks ago and have had absolutely no issues and my TT sounds the best it ever has.

I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this?

And or any thought or comments.

The AR turntables had no anti-skating. I never heard a bad one.

I don't use mine on the MH MMF-5. No issues here.

It is a truism, but many have said (and I believe) that no antiskate is better than poorly implemented, or poorly adjusted antiskating. I.e., antiskating can do more harm than good (even though the tendency of the stylus to be "pulled" inward by the spiraling groove is a real one).
