Got nowhere with this one on AVS Page, so here goes:

QUESTION 1: Is there anyway to setup Zone 2 to Automatically play the same source as the Main Zone.

VIDEO CONFUSION:
QUESTION 2: How do I get the Denon just to PASS THRU video signals from non-HDMI sources. IS this even possible with Denon Monitor out via HDMI?

A few of the things already tried:
Under HDMI Settings: (I/P scaler off, --> No picture
Under HDMI Settings: i/p scaler set to "A to H"
then disabling within Source Select>Video Convert to off. settings --> NO Picture (the manual claims you should use this for 'non standard' vid like games)
Have tried with "Auto", 1080i, 1080p even 480!

QUESTION 3: What on earth does i/p scaler do when set "Auto"

---Additional Info---
Should it matter in this case an SD DVD player connected via component cables., believe had same or similar probs with iPod and Wii (moved both of these direct to TV in frustration)

FYI: Just Why would I want to do this:
Picture looks much better direct to TV - no scaling, but I'd like simplicity of running thru HDMI (keeping possible Vid Inputs on TV minimal)

The scaler seems to screws up aspect ratio (since there appears to be no way to set according to device & it's a PITA to get to the HDMI "Full/Normal" option.

What am I missing here?...

My denon doesn't have HDMI, so I can't help there. It converts one standard to another (composite to svideo or component, svideo to component, etc), but it doesn't change the resolution.

As for the zone 2 playing the same as the main zone...

Set the zone 2 source to something unused (VDP, Vaux...)
Run a set of patch cords from the front pre-outs to the input you chose for zone 2

Now when you change the main-zone source it will still play in the zone 2.

Hope this helps.

Interesting idea, but using front pre-outs already...

I have not used this unit, but I would think that to get composite to HDMI, you would have to set the scaler or video converter, or both, to "on".

I would think that to get composite to HDMI, you would have to set the scaler or video converter, or both, to "on"

Enabling both DOES get me video (but unfortunately, distorted video. I COULD set i/p scaler to 480 or 760, but then some sources (which do a better upconvert job) would be downconverted, (or converted 2x).

I wish I could remember exactly what I had to do when my Nintendo Wii (component to reciever) wouldnt display a picture through to my Sony XBR 4 LCD (reciever to HDTV via HDMI). Looking at my setup screen on my Denon 2807, which has the old ugly text setup screens, I go into VIDEO --> HDMI OUT SETUP ---- than I select ON for Analog to HDMI Convert.

This converts the analog signal going through component into a digital signal to go thru your HDTV. Interestingly you cant do the opposite .. that is convert digital to analog (ex. using an HDMI connected component and a component connected HDTV).

If you have a newer model XX08 or XX09 model Im not sure of the titles for the setup menu options are the same but it should be similar ... obviously it will be under some Video heading and some subheading for HDMI Out ... than pretty much you need to find some analog to digital or analog to HDMI convert wording.

I have IP convert to off and the Wii pciture looks as good as Wii graphics will look.

Let me know if that works as it worked for me!
