If the price ever drops to a reasonable $400 or so, I would love to try one out. It's the first player besides the Denon and Marantz that doesn't look like a cheap plastic toy. I believe the Denon and Marantz retail for about the same price as well.

I dunno...Been reading up on specs and whatever info I could find on it. It looks nice, but is apparently lacking in features. Probably as a means for Yamaha to boost sales on their receivers is the speculation. No onboard decoders for TrueHD/Master audio. I can't see how Yamaha can justify the price tag for this.

Nice, right on par with Pioneer's model

The price is definetely too high. That's why I said if it ever drops to $400 or so...which it probably will after it doesn't sell at $1200.

Seems no one can yet beat out the performance / price of the PS3.
Companies like this make me laugh, $1,100 for a half-assed Blu-ray player. That's like Pioneer touting it's "PS3 Killer", their Elite BDP-09FD at $2,200. HA HA HA!!! Build that same machine and sell it for $400 then maybe it'll be a PS3 killer, until then, stop wasting time and money building incomplete machines.

Even at 400.00 I wouldn't buy this. There's better machines within the 400.00 range. Disappointing Yamaha.

This kind of "screw the consumer" pricing mentality wouldn't have happened if HD-DVD won the format war.

Why? What would have been different?

Toshiba, being the benevolent company they are, would have given a free player to every household!:D

Denon is doing the same thing with a $2000 player. No analog outs either. I am done with the whole lossless/true HD sound crap. Every independent test I have read shows minimal improvements. When they have a BD player at $200 with analog outs so I do not have to upgrade the pre/pro again, sign me up.

That's why I went with a used BD-P1200 (just over 200 shipped) and don't miss those "upgrade to profile 2.0" features such as BDLive, etc. at all.

This is what the speculation is about with the design of these players. No analog for HD audio/no on board decoders=consumers needing to buy newer, capable receivers to take advantage of the full HD audio.
