Cool; If I get a Blu Ray player, it will probably be this one.

Is this available now? Does it do the high def audio decoding and send it out analogue?
I guess I could check but, man am I lazy.

These are the first pics of the long-rumored Blu-ray player from Oppo. It was not displayed at CEDIA by Oppo, but rather Anchor Bay, whose imaging chips are inside. No info other than the photos. The SACD logo can be seen on the front faceplate though.

I think this is a proto...I spoke to Oppo this week. No word on release and they are trying to make it a universal, region free, BD/DVD player. They are just not sure if they can pull it off. Maybe the tech at Oppo was playing his cards close to the vest and there will be an annoucement next week, but I got the feeling this product won't make it to market by Xmas.

I just got the Oppo 980H and I love it, so I can wait for a Blu-ray player. But when Oppo does eventually come out with their BR unit, hopefully next year, I will very likely get it.

It's cool, all depends on the price.
Right now you can buy a Denon 3910 for $325 to $400 that sounds amazing with SACD's and then somebody's else's Blu-Ray that has been out already and has great reviews.
OPPO was good for what it was when you could get a $169 player that played every disc that was out at that particular point in time.
Now if this player is $200 then that is an awesome deal, but if it's $469 I'm gonna pass.

It looks like they weren't able to implement DVD A. I know they wanted to, but I guess they couldn't get it to work.
I imagine $450 - $500 is going to be the price. If it's less then I'll sell my BD player and pick one up.

Seeing that their anchor bay chipset dvd player is still 399 , and this blu ray player will be using that chipset as well for dvd upconverting...its gonna be closer to 500 then 200.
If it comes in at 399 I will order one the day it comes out just on Oppo's track record of stellar products ( I own 3 ) and firmware updates that actually work and come out in a timely manner. If it comes out in the 500 range I will wait to see reviews first...but prob still end up getting it...need to retire the ps3 back to the mancave.

In order for the unit to be a compelling value, I think it will need to implement DVD-A in addition to SACD. As I stated previously, I have the Oppo 980H and I love it. One of the reasons is, it plays both DVD-A and SACD discs (and plays them very well), in addition to its excellent visual rendering of DVDs.
In fact, the visual quality of DVDs on my TV is so good, it comes pretty close to the image quality of HD broadcasts from cable. No, I'm not saying it makes DVDs as good as HD; but, it brings them close enough so that I'm in no hurry to invest in Blu-Ray.
Regards.
