My 1st high end reciever....1987...OOoooooo it was the 2nd best at the time.
1st best was a 530 and it had.......Dolby Prologic and simulated surround sound.
(Surround in it's infant stage)
It was quite advanced at the time....oh how technology has come along.
Came across this original ad I still had the other day.
Scanned it for your amusement.:D

Its better than the first reciever I purchased in 81,a lowly Technics SA101 with a whopping 18 watts and Analog tuner,no remote.

Yeah even a remote at the time was a plus.
Wish I could find one in mint cond just to have for giggles.
They are VERY hard to find!!!

That volume level indicator around the volume knob is kinda cool. Instead of seeing the dB volume level in the display, which is the norm today, you can also see it in an analog sorta form.

Cool. I had one with the same "New Class A" badge as well. Yours was much higher up in the food chain. I remember when Technics made a lot of HT receivers. Those were the years of the first HT boom I guess.

I still have an SA-GX700. It's quite nice for a simple 2-channel rig. I used it for a little while with R50's and even RTi6's. It has a graphic equalizer but I always ran it flat. I like the motorized volume control. There is a switch in the back for 8-16 Ohm or 4-8 Ohm speaker selection. I could probably handle the LSi7's, but nothing more.

This is the last I saw of Technics before they disappeared....
SA-TX50 and it was about $1000 at the time.
Which at that stage in my life was waaaaay outta my reach!!!
A very impressive looking unit tho!!!
I drooled over it more than once! :D

What's the feasability of buying a VU meter and somehow hooking it up to an existing rig, sort of a standalone meter?

I remember buying a Technics at Sears in the early 90's, H-class with Dolby Pro, also did 3Ch stereo with a center, still have it somewhere.
