I need suggestions for a preamp to run a pair of Carver M400 amps setup to biamp a set of speakers.

I dont want to break the bank so under 700.00 would work. It would also be nice to have twin outputs so I dont have to use y-adapters. It does not need a phono stage but does need a tape loop. A sub output would also be nice.

This will be powering a set of Klipsch RB-81s and a RSW-10d sub.

Im using this system to edit LP recordings that were recorded to computer then they will be recorded to Minidisc and CD. I have a Sony MDS-JB920 Minidisc Deck and a Pioneer PDR-609 CD Recorder that I am recording the edited final recording to.

I have a Carver CT-28 $120 shipped (US $15 more for you Canucks) in the original box.
I bought 4 pre amps to audition for the wife;
Carver CT-28
Marantz AV-550
Marantz AV-600
Parasound p/sp 1500
I kept the Parasound, the rest are for sale. I better shut up before my reply gets booted as an ad.

One last thing this preamp does not need is a tuner. I dont listen to radio except Sirius.

What are good vintage tubes?

I love that sub!! When I purchased mine, it was down to my Snell and the RSW-10d - LOVED both of them.

How do you like yours?

the most warm and analog sounding tubes I've tried are telefunkens, followed by siemens.

Havnt heard mine yet. Just got it with the RB-81s. Im in the process of rearranging my recording/computer studio room. I have been building cables and speaker stands.

What did you pay for yours? The MSRP is 1299. I paid 449.00 and that was with a 50.00 discount for it being demoed. When the sales droid said 499 but I will give you 50.00 off for it being on the floor I was like "Box that bad boy up". I think that has got to be the score of the year. 1299 RSW-10d sub for 449. Brand new! So now I have some extra cash to spend on a nice preamp.

......Great preamp used, at bargain basement price if you can find it.....B&K pro10mc, Ussally goes for under $250.00. Has great phono section as well as a passive mode. Also has dual preamp outputs....nice clean sound.

I use it to power a Carver M-1.ot amp and a B&K st140 amp...diving Polk SDA-crs's and Klipsch Forte II's. Best BANG for the Buck.

I owned the Acurus that Hoosier is selling.....it's a nice sounding unit....better than the Carver.

Tubes are WAY too subjective to make a blanket statement. Carl couldn't tell you the difference between a Telefunken and a Toyota if he had too. It just happens to be his flavor of the month.

Carver C-1. MM & MC phono w/ two main outputs. Also the best sonic holography in the Carver lineup IMO.
