Hey all, i'm thinking about doing a custom install in a friends ford ranger. Just wondering if anyone else has had a go at this ute(or a similar one) and if you've you've got any good ideas/comments/tips. Thanks. :D:D

Ute?
Pictures please so I know what you are talking about. A Ranger here in the states and what most people here are familar with is a compact pickup truck like this:

But I'd imagine the stuff from Oz looks nothing like it.
BTW, I've done installs in about 9 Rangers like the one above.

I think "Ute" is short for "Utility Vehicle" . . . kinda like saying 4X4 over here.

Not necessarily. A "Ute" over there can be anything from an SUV to an El Camino style vehicle which is based on a car, not a truck. Consequently, things change when discussing cabin and audio component layout.
And I don't really know anyone that uses "4x4" to refer to anything other than a vehicle with 4 wheels that are all driven through a trasnfer case. Like pickup truck or a full-sized SUV. Maybe it's different where you are, I dunno.

haha, ummm, a ute here is basically and car with a tray. Never had any idea that people had ideas otherwise.
there's a pic here. (http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1178852711234&pagename=FOA%2FDFYPage%2FFord-Default&c=DFYPage)
He'll be doing some work to get it away from looking so stock but atm that's what it looks like..

I wish we could get that configuration in the States. Turbo-Diesel w/ a 5spd... that'd be awesome. Lots of other people over here feel the same way, but it wouldn't pass emissions :(
They have true 4 door crew cabs, too....

I'm just wondering on the placement of speakers on the truck? Will it be on the doors? how about the sub-woofers?
