Remote turn on wires

I searched but came up with very little on this subject and i am having some trouble getting my amps setup for the remote turn on.
I have two rotel amps one is a 1050 the other is a 1075
Both have remote turn on but what wire do i need for this?
I thought it was a 3.5mm jack so i got one from radio shack but i plugged it in and no dice.
Did i get the wrong wire type or what guys?

Are there any other switches or buttons to adjust the settings to "enable" remote turn on? Are there "in" and "out" jacks? Can't hurt to double check your work.

The 1075 has a switch to enable the remote turn on the 1050 does not.
They both have in and out jacks.
At first i only had the 1075 amp so i plugged in the wire from the output on the amp to the input to the AVR.
That didn't work so i reversed it and went from output to input and so on...tried all kinds of ways but nothing.
