Yeah that's right...I'm so pissed I had to start a new thread so everyone could vent. Apparently they are all being recalled before they hit the store shelves. Something about an authoring problem with the discs and they won't play right in blu-ray players. If paramount can't meet demands for replacement copies the movie will be delayed until Oct 7th.:mad::mad:. This is coming directly from www.Blu-ray.com website.

they'll release on regular DVD, hoping you'll buy the DVD then the subsequent Blu-Ray later on. authoring problem my @ss

That's disappointing and all, but I would reserve "so pissed" for more outrageous things that aren't a DVD being delayed an entire week.

I know, there's worse things in life. I've just been looking forward to this blu-ray for some time now. A week is not bad, it might not even be a week if Paramount pulls through but for us Canadians...we get everything last...EH!:p

I am so upset I have decided to build my own set of plasma powered armor. As soon as it is complete I will fly from my balcony and destroy Universal HQ with plasma discs. Hopefully I can get this built before the release.

Blu-ray.com is now saying there is no delay. Just a recall of already defective disks...

We have received word from Paramount that they will meet the street date and that the 'Iron Man' Blu-ray will not be delayed.

As I've read it - the problem is that the BD does not load/play on certain players:

I watched this blue ray over at a friends house the other day. He works for Blockbuster and they got their shipment in the beginning of the week. Worked great on his player and system. Sound was very good and there were no hiccups or anything out of the ordinary.

Paramount officially announced that the bad discs have been recalled and every disc that will be on the store's shelves on the 30th will be the fixed discs. This avoids any issues or recalls.

No worries guys, Iron Man in HD on the 30th.

Fry's has it advertised in the local paper for $24.99. I hope this is the start of a trend for retailers to mark down titles on release day. That's cheaper than the Amazon price (not including tax of course). And Fry's has weekly 13 buck blu-ray bargain sales now too. All good trends as we near the holiday season...

I guess if $25 is going to be considered a good deal then I'll continue building my BR collection VERY SLOWLY. The $13 deals at Fry's are nice, but they're usually only a handful of titles at a time and most are stuff I picked up cheaper during all the sales last year...

Maybe it's just me, but $25 - $35 a pop for a movie, even in hi-def, is a bit steep. Having said that, I did just buy my first even full price BR, picked up the Nightmare Before Christmas and paid full price for it...25 bucks

I guess you're too new to the game to remember when HD disks released at Best Buy for full retail price even during the format war. It's a good trend to know that even the main retailers like BB and CC will release top tier new titles for $25, ignoring the list price of $39.99. This was something that only places like amazon did. Now that regular retailers are discounting on release day, we should look forward to even better sale prices when they aren't new releases anymore...

I've been in the game for a couple years now, having owned both formats...

Is $25 better than $40? Yes, but it's still too much. I have over 200 titles in both formats combined now, and only paid more than $15 for a dozen or so of those titles. To me, $25 is still too much to pay for a movie, even in HD format. $15 is about my threshold, though I'll pay more in certain instances...

Understood, you don't want to pay any more than the current Best Buy price for the DVD copy of Iron Man ($14.99 on their website). The Blu-ray will only be worth more for you in a rare circumstance...you might be better off with netflix...

The Blu-ray will only be worth more for you in a rare circumstance...you might be better off with netflix...Nah, I don't really want to pay $15 for the regular DVD either. It's different for everyone, but my standard price limits are about $10 for regular DVD (can't remember the last time I bought one of those) and about $15 for an HD disc. I went absolutely nuts last year when everything was on sale, got most of my movies for either 9.99 or 13.49, and the occasional title at 14.99. I've been adding to my collection throughout this year, though the deals have been far fewer.

Recently, however, I've been adding to my obsolete collection of HD DVDs at Fry's. I've spent about $300 in the past month on HD DVD titles at anywhere from 7.99 to 11.99 at my local Fry's (Irving and Plano locations). I have an HD DVD player in every room at this point, and still only the 1 BR player, so HD DVDs are currently still my title of choice just because I can play them back anywhere in the house. I think at this point though I own about all the HD DVD titles that I want.

I'm hoping the BR sales pick back up at the end of the year like they did last year, if they do I'll be nearly doubling my BR collections.

Looking at other forums.. it appears that the disc loads up BD-Live features on initial startup to the HDD on the PS3. Some users reporting it takes about 10 minutes or longer DEPENDING ON YOUR NETWORK SPEED. To bypass this, you can disable your network connection before playing the disc. I am not sure if the PS3 has an option to disable BD-Live in the menus.

Another thing to check. The defective Ironman discs were gray in color, the "fixed" discs is supposed to be blue but I could not verify if this is the case. Also, the case on the new is supposed have a "stickered" UPC code pasted on the case.

Yeah jon, Kaneohe. I picked it up from Sun Coast Video, Windward Mall. I just got back from returning it. I called BB this morning before SC to ask if they had BD copies, said all their stock went back and would be a week or so before the next. When I returned the one I had, the gal down at SC said they weren't aware of any recall and that their shipment arrived yesterday. So I dunno if I just got a bad disc or what. I'm just going to wait a week or two then try again. No rush.

did you disable internet from your player? from what i am reading, the Paramount BD-Live servers are being hammered and cannot maintain the data stream with so many hits. if you disable the internet connection, the disc should load pretty quickly. fi you are using a PS3, you can disable or set BD-Live to load only when you confirm it.

Hmmm, maybe that was the case with mine. It was a blue colored disc. Seemed like it was just stuck on the start-up screen. I have high speed Road Runner and I did notice the light flickering on my PS3, figuring data was loading and waited until it stopped. Grrrr, wish I had saw this post and tried disabling the network prior to returning the disc. Dammit! :p

You don't need to disable your network. In the PS3 System Settings-BD/DVD Settings there are 2 options. Confirm/Allow. To disable the BD internet setting choose confirm. When you go to playback you'll be prompted to either confirm or allow an internet connection for the disc. Select No to leave this function off.

As Grimster stated the load time are very fast with the BD-30, the only problem I've had with the IM BD is going back and forth between some of the special feature on disc 1, had a couple of freeze ups and had to restart the player at one point. Other than that its a great disc as PQ and AQ goes, just make sure you turn off the DRC in your pre or receiver, something about this discs TrueHD track will activate it.

From Ralph Potts AVS reviewer

'' ** It should be noted that during my evaluation of Iron Man it was determined that the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack was activating the Dynamic Range circuitry in my Denon AVR. I recommend that users ensure that the Dynamic Range/Night Mode options are turned OFF in their receivers/processors/PS3/players so that the full audio capabilities inherent in the audio can be achieved. Denon owners will need to check this while sending the TrueHD audio bitstream to the receiver/processor. Those who are using their players to do the decoding (internally) should not be affected. ** ''

On top of this being the best comic book movie to date the TrueHD track has got to be one of the best as well. The detail in all channels, the bass and the overall envelopment of the track is beyond impressive. This has got to rank as one of the best Blu-ray discs available right now.

It's a fantastic movie and it doesn't hurt how damn good it sounds. I'm still running DD and coming from my Ps3 (which plays the disc just fine and I downloaded the new content) over optical is purely amazing. I love this movie. I planned on just watching a few scenes and watching it this weekend but once I popped it in, I got hooked and watched the entire movie.

Awesome man Awesome,

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6602928.html?desc=topstory

1 in 5 of all disks sold (blu-ray and dvd) were blu-ray overall.

Online it was 1/2 of all disks sold.

At Amazon, they sold more blu-ray copies than the dvd...

Reference sound track here, if it's "not quite up to snuff" best check your settings, make sure your not running DRC, several receiver brands automatically turn it on when a TrueHD track is recognized.
