24,30, or 36 inch stands for LSi9s?

Need an opinion ... or two.

I will finally be getting off my isolated island and heading to Toronto. Thinking of picking up some speaker stands for my winter addition of a pair of LSi9s for surround speakers. I have been looking at the Bello speaker stands which come in 24,30 and 36 inch heights and wondered which may be best for surround duty.

Having measured the dimensions of my Lsi25s I noticed it would take a 33 inch stand to put the Lsi9 at the same height as the tweeter/mid/woofer as the LSi25s 'stuff'.

So should I go with the 36 inch stands due to the fact that there is a couch 3 feet in front of the speaker to get a bit more sound over the couch or not worry about it and get the 30 inch to give a bit more stability to the whole situation. I am a little weary of the Bello stands after giving it a bit of thought as they can not be filled with sand or lead shot to give them any extra weight.

Anyhow more interested in the height dilemma for now. I inoticed in previous posts regarding the issue of stands for LSi9s most people have the 24 inch range stands however most people responding are using them for front speaker duty.

HT rears should be higher than ear level by around 2 feet.

I would go with the 36" stands. I have my LSi9's in the front on 30" stands and have my LSi7's in the rear on 42" stands. It sounds good.

Thanks for the input. I will go with the tallest available. I will see if I can get anything taller and something that is 'fill-able'. I really like some of the higher quality Sanus stands though none of the taller ones are recommended for speakers over 25 lbs which the LSi9s are definately heavier than.

I am currently using 26" SANUS Ultimate speaker stands which costed me about $280/pair for my LSi9's. Like you mentioned, the Ultimate series also have 30" and 36" stands which are recommended for 25 lbs. speakers. LSi9's weight around 33 lbs. which only their 22" and 26" stands are recommended to support. In my case, I bought the stands in an attempt to eliminate the earache problem that I suspected my previous unsteady speaker stands were causing, becuase when I was using floorstanding Polk Monitor series speakers prior to LSi9's, I did not have these ear fatigue problems. So in an attempt to mimic the floorstanding speakers, I went with the SANUS Ultimate stands that, with the sand filled, weighs close to 50 lbs per stand! I have not experienced an earache problem for the past one month since. If you are thinking of putting the LSi9's as side surround speakers, then I guess it would be better to go with as tall stands as possible because they are recommended to be placed 2-4 feet above your ear level for a better surround effect (http://www.thx.com/home/setup/speakers/side.html); but if they are for the back surround speakers, then I guess 26" would be better, because they are sturdier, and because THX website did not mention about them being placed as high as the side surround speakers (http://www.thx.com/home/setup/speakers/back.html). For me, LSi9's are for back surround speakers, and I am using LSiFX for the side surround in a 7.2 system. I hope this helps you in making your decision then! :)

thanks for the input. I do like the higher end Sanus stuff that you mention ... they are nice. The 9s will be used for side surronds in a 5.1 system ... so the higher the better for me at this point. I definately do not want any ear ache problems so I may look for something that can be filled, perhaps causing me to rethink the Bello stands.

Ill see what I see at the various specialty audio shops I visit in Toronto.
