Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz" CD or at least a CD that has this song on it. I have attempted to purchase it twice and both deals fell through.

For some reason, all of his discs sell for a lot of money. I own a few of them and remember when you could pick them up for $10. Now most of them go for $50+. Very strange.

Anyway, I don't have any to sell, but I do know that Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits Of The 80s Volume 10 has the track you're looking for. Looks like a reputable Amazon seller has it for $6.34 + $2.98 shipping here:

I've got the MP3 of it...I used to always sing "Cuttin off your tits" to this song instead of the real lyrics...not sure why. ;)

Man, I'm looking for a needle in a haystack here and I don't know what I'm even looking for. Let me explain. I heard "Puttin on the Ritz" last year on the radio. I could not find out what station, unfortunately. However, this was not the original version that got overplayed when it first came out. No, this version had all sorts of mixing thrown into it and whoever did it, did a DAMN fine job of it. Not one person that I have talked to about this knows WTF I'm talking about when I talk about this different version that I heard on the radio.

I do know that I'll keep trying because even though I have only heard that version once, I immediately liked it better than the original. Not only that, it was way, way longer than the original as well. Do any of you have any freakin' clue as to what I'm talking about here?

You are describing the 12" version of the song. The album version clocks in at 3:25, while the 12" version is extended to 6:03 and includes the mixing you describe. Unfortunately, it is very hard to track down on CD. There is a Japanese compilation that has the 12" version on it, but it is now out of print and can be difficult to track down. Here are the details of the comp:

Thanks for the listen, blakeh. It turns out that it's not the version I heard. There were more instrumentals and orchestral pieces in it and there were also many mixing tricks introduced. I appreciate it nonetheless.

Sorry to hear that wasn't the version you heard. I believe that is the only official remix, so what you may be trying to track down is a remix service version (Razormaid, Art Of Mix, Hot Tracks, etc.).

I think I have this on vinyl somewhere. Don't think it has a remix on it though. I'll rumage through and see what it is. Not sure if it helps you though.

The album's title is "After Eight", and to the best of my knowledge, has never been re-released. However, if you have the $$$, there's a Japanese CD pressing available on ebay....

I doubt that would have the particular version of the song he is looking for. If you read his description he's looking for a "special" remix of the song. I can tell you one thing Tom, if blakeh (my brother) doesn't have it or know where to get it; it's probably non-existent. His hobby and passion for the past 15 years or so has been '80's alternative music and it's origin, etc. He collects just about anything available and used to have one of the largest databases of this genre of music on the internet.

Not to say he can't come up empty handed once in awhile. He has several contacts all over the world to use as references. As he stated it's probably on one of the "remix" services disc's which DJ's would subscribe to in the 80's and 90's and it's probably a very hard to find obscure remix of the song, probably never released in "official" form.

Was is a very "modern" sounding mix? In other words, did it sound like a DJ remixed it for the dance floor? If so, Robbie Steel did a remix of the song recently. It starts out with a very hard techno drum beat.

Otherwise, the only other official release I can think of is called the "Special Remix 89" and clocks in at 7:49. It is available on a CD single.
