How does everyone think the PS3 measures up for playing CD's against a run of the mill CD player? I've got an ealry 90's HK CD player that is pretty basic. Probably their low end player at the time. But I find I prefer the sound of the PS3 for CD's. Just seems to be more full to me.

If it means one less device in your arsenal, and it sounds good to you, why not? I think it plays no different than any other "normal" cd player. I use my Samsung DVD player to play cd's and I think it sounds great to me. There are obviously better cd players on the market however, nothing wrong with using it to play cd's!

Your PS3 will have a better onboard DAC than your older entrly level H/K will. The only downside to running the PS3 is that they are noisier (when running) and take a bit more time read discs than a dedicated CD player will. Also it can be a bit more challenging sometimes with the remote and changing tracks

Thanks for the advice. I'm short on space so will get rid of the HK. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the fan noise on the PS3's but I do not have that problem at all at least when playing a CD or a BD for that matter. Its a brand new one (80g) so perhaps some of those issues were fixed this time around. I also just ordered the Sony Bluetooth remote so hopefully that will be a much better interface then the game controller.

Yeah that remote is life saver if you are using your PS3 to play BD and CDs.
