Yea, I picked it up. It's pretty good, better than the last couple albums. The wife and I are going to the concert in Tulsa in January. What songs do you like in particular?

My copy of this arrived today and I dig it! Very much like classic, old school AC/DC. Not one song on this CD I didn't like. Balls to the Walls all the way rockers.

Whilst I agree this is not a bad AC/DC record (it ain't Blow Up Your Video), it is not "balls to the wall rock". Their Ballbreaker album had songs that rock way harder, but perhaps was more patchy overall. The Black Ice CD would benefit from a pairing down to ten tracks total. Get rid of tracks 2, 3 and 4 for starters and go from there. Try programming your CD player as such and see how much the album benefits from tighter quality control.
If you really want balls to the wall rock from an Aussie band, check out the CD (or Youtube tracks) from Airbourne. They sound like "Let There Be Rock" era AC/DC mixed with The Angels and Rose Tattoo. The singer is like Angry Anderson on crack! One listen to this album and you will soon realise that AC/DC lost their balls years ago!
Cheers,
Mark

I have not listened to the band Airbourne--Never heard of um --
ac/dc has lost quiet a few things over the years---
but it's not thier balls - you take air- I take ac/dc -- very simple

My son Logan wanted it, so I bought it for him. I wasn't really interested, but everytime I go in his room and he's rocking out, I start getting into it.

Hey Fossy, Check out Airbourne on Youtube, then play a couple tracks off Black Ice. See if you still maintain the same opinion.
I absolutely love AC/DC, so there's no malice here. Just a simple truth. AC/DC are still better than most bands out there, but compared to their past glories, Black Ice is tame. In particular, Phil Rudd misses many opportunities to add dynamic and drama to the material, and Brian Johnson's melodies are barely melodious. also many of the riffs lack the inventiveness of earlier material, or paradoxically some are overly inventive and lacking in groove.
We all have our opinions, but do yourself a favour and check out Airbourne.
Cheers,
Mark

 But that would get rid of a couple of songs that I really like (2 & 4). Maybe I'm just mellowing as I get older. Also like track 13 a lot.

Fossy,
Thats great. While you're on an Aussie rock kick here are a few more recommendations:
The Angels - Face To Face and No Exit albums
Rose Tattoo - Anything from the '70's
The Living End - Roll On, State Of Emergency, White Noise
The Hoodoo Gurus - Stoneage Romeos and Mars Needs Guitars
The Cruel Sea - The Honeymoon is Over
Cheers,
Mark

Hey Rivrat,
How did you first come to hear The Angels? Living in Adelaide, South Australia (their home town) I was well aware of them as a little kid. Infact the very first album I ever bought (at ther ripe old age of 10) was Face To Face.
The Angels have recently regrouped and toured Australia to sell-out audiences at every date! It was billed as the 30th anniversary tour of Face to Face. I went to the Adelaide gig and they're still as good as ever.
Unfortunately there is bad news for The Angels in the last couple of days. John Brewster, founding member on rhythm guitar, suffered a heart attack this week at a sound check. He was rushed straight to hospital and ended up with a 5 way bypass! The tour continues, but with his son in his place.
Gettin' old must be a bitch!!

So get this...weird how things happen. My son John and I are driving home and the car just died. I had to pull it into a parking lot where a local electronics outlet is situated. They are open on Sunday for the start of holiday shopping season. A guy comes out and helps me determine the car's fuel pump is toasted (yes bummer but stay with me). He says I can use the stores phone to call CAA (Canadian version of AAA) to get a tow. I'm looking around the store and spot a turntable (cheap pos) with AC/DC's Black Ice on it. Holy crap I go!!! I ask the guy can I buy that LP. He says no but he'll sell me a brand new in shrink wrap promo one he has behind the counter. Woo HOO!!! I ask how much and he says $20.00. SOLD!! That's like $16.00 american dollars. Double LP 180 gram promo copy. What a scoop. Too bad about the toasted fuel pump but you just never know where the silver lining is.

Ok now this gets really weird. My son and I sit down to listen to and critique the new Black Ice LP and side one is good and everything is ok. We flip the record over and suddenly the Clash is playing live! WTF?? Turns out side two is the newly released Clash live at Shea Stadium but only side two of the 180 gram LP. Bizzare!! The other record is all AC/DC so I guess I have an extremely rare screw up pressing of Black Ice with the Clash. I still want to hear side two so I'm going back to the store tomorrow and see if they still have one left that might actually have AC/DC on side two. Weird eh?

I used to party hard to Rose Tattoo. Love that group and that particular title. Like old AC/DC. Very good stuff.

Finally got a listen to R &R outlaw & face to face-- both very good -- thanks again gretsch
never can have enough rock & roll IMO
AC/DC playing tonight in San Antonio- I should have taken my lazy arse to see um !!!
Shadow----- how was the show ???
while speaking of ac/dc sound alike bands, rhino bucket is a band that was fairly popular in the early to mid 90's.Still to this day, their first cd,self titled, is one of my favorite listening's.Unfortunately, their first 2 cd's,(which IMO are the best offerings from RB) are out of print, so gotta find those used or get someone to make a copy for ya..............the third cd - pain-- actually had ex ac/dc drummer simon wright on drums-- Check um out -- still to this day one of my favorite bands but the only original members are the singer & bass player

Hi Fossy,
I am pleased you enjoyed the recommendations. The Angels material is quite unique in that its not blues based, and the guitar and bass approaches are unusually melodic for a hard rock outfit.
The Face to Face album was recorded in Alberts Sydney studios at the same time AC/DC were there recording Let There Be Rock and Powerage. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall then! Speaking of Powerage, how good are the sonics on that? Supercalafreakingawesome!!!!

I'll have to check this out. Their last few albums I didn't like so much...but anything from AC/DC is definitely worth a listen.

Also try Airbourne. New AC/DC soundalike from the land down under.
No longer in existance but the same hard driving rock and roll was The Four Horsemen from Cali. Their first album was the best "Nobody Said It Was Easy"
