It's about time for the city. Let's hope it is the beginning of a new trend.
They had their ups and down throughout the season but they played great during the playoff.

I wish the Orioles would shape up. It's been so long since I've been able to root for a team :(

Congrats guys. As a Braves and NL fan in general, I'm happy you guys had a time to shine. Just don't get too comfy in the NL East. My Bravos have a few tricks up their sleeve this off season. Peavy.... Peavy.... Peavy...

Congrats to all the Philly fans but damn that was the worst WS I've ever seen.
Angels in 09'
btw..baseball desperately needs a REAL Commissioner!

I don't understand how it was the worst world series ever? That doesn't make any sense to me. The teams were pretty well matched and all the games, except for the 10-2 blowout by the Phillies were pretty closely contested.

Not to mention that game 5.5 was one of the more exciting couple hours of baseball in recent memory (maybe not for me so much since I didn't have a horse in this race, but in general).
And what would a new commissioner do that would be so great exactly? I thought Selig made the right decision to postpone the game rather than let the World Series be decided in 5 and a half innings.

Biggest changes they need to make are (1) start the games 1-2 hours earlier (games ending at midnight-1am just kills the younger demographic viewership, not to mention those of us with real jobs), and (2) eliminate the off days when not traveling.

And what's all that going to get us?

Ok, I'll play.
Starting time: increased interest, hence better ratings; right now MLB is on the wane compared to the NFL. On the east coast, games start after 9pm; not exactly prime viewing time for kids. If they're lucky they can watch the first few inning. Heck, as an adult, I'm a bit fatigued when the games stretch past midnight.
The removal of off days would get the WS back to ending in mid-October again, rather than stretching into November. Baseball players in freezing rain isn't exactly a good thing, and greater fan attendance would probably be a good thing.

I thought Selig made the right decision to postpone the game rather than let the World Series be decided in 5 and a half innings.
The decision itself wasn't bad, but rather how and when it was done. If you listen to analysts that were at the game, they said it was pretty clear that the game should have been halted in the 3rd or 4th inning. But no, instead Selig keeps the game going, through absolutely abysmal conditions in the 5th and 6th innings, until Tampa can tie the game, then immediately halts it in the middle of an inning.
As it turns out, everything turned out ok, but if Philadelphia had lost the game, and hence momentum, it would have been a mess, as many would have pointed to Selig's decision as turning the tide of the series.
Selig's known for making shit up on the fly and inventing new rules to suit his whim. I'd be quite happy to see a new Commissioner of Baseball.

yep, like making Houston play following a major disaster - Hurricane Ike.
Why couldn't Lidge pitch like that when in Houston?
Stienbrenner for Comish. :)

That's not going to happen for 2009. It's going to be worse in the 2009 season as baseball season starts 1 week later in 2009 compared to 2008. Post season will start 1 week later pushing the World Series start date to October.

Is this just in reference to the World Series or the whole season?

Dammit again I lost my whole reply lets see if I can remember what I said...
I thought the reason for the late start was to allow the west coasters to see the game at a reasonable time-otherwise the games would have started before the west coasters even left work for the day. I didn't mind it at all. Actually works out better for traffic at the stadiums as well not impacting rush hour traffic in the areas of the games.
I am glad it turned out the way it did. I would not have wanted the Philles to win by default for a called game just because of the weather. That would have sucked. To me it would have been an anti-climax. I'm glad the game played its course and ended after a completely played game.
Personally I think the rule of ending a game after 4.5 innings where it defaults the game to whoever is in the lead at the time is a bad rule. It might be OK for in season games. I think that at least in the World Series when no other game schedules would be impacted, that a delayed game should be called no matter what inning or score its in if the weather warrants it.

Philadelphia and Tampa Bay are on.... which coast again?
It's one thing when a game is ON the west coast and starts at 7 local time. Still pisses me off if a game I want to see starts at 10PM on a weeknight, but I understand. If the game is on the east coast and features two east coast teams, starting any later than 7pm is LUDICROUS, and yet happens all the time during the playoffs.
And I also agree that baseball running into November shoudl NEVER happen. They need to just cut 20 games out of the regular season, realistically, and have this all wrapped up by the second week of October.

GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................. have I kept my mouth shut on this issue. Eyes to see and ears to hear and all that jazz. This World Series blew syphilitic donkey balls. Please, oh please, find me a Kirk Gibson moment in the whole shebang. The Rays should have never been there. And (no offense) the Phillies really weren't the best team in MLB.
Atrocious.
