......I have a 5400 with only the left channel working. It has been stored for years. The case looks excellent and the interior looks clean....no signs of smoke. The fuses are good...exchanged the left 2 with the right 2. What else could it be? out put transitors? any idea cost to fix?
Could the left channel be used by itself to power center speaker in surround system without right channel working???

Yes, the left channel can still be used.
Is there a faint hiss from the right channel? Maybe it's giving out power but has no input signal.

...switched right and left input and also speakers switched. Its really a shame because from the outside it looks new. Only have $100 invested and if it can be used as center amp off working channel....that would be fine.

No problem. You might want to remove the bad channel's fuses. If they are internal please be careful. Those caps can hold quit a charge for a while.

What harm would it be if not done? (Remove bad channel's fuses) I do this more or less using my Pioneer Elite AVR for Pro/Pre for my 2 channel mode of my HT setup.

...Thank you for concern.....but brings up a GOOD story.
>>>>Been shocked since I was 9....some 50 odd years back.
"MiSTER Wizzard" type next door....chain of "KIDS" with + wire on one side and - wire on other.........taught me too respect the powers of "DOG"....but also to enjoy a GOOD volt or 2. NO child abuse laws back in the GOOD ole days/

If there is a problem that could arise from heat warping a bad connection that caused the channel to go out... Who knows, but it is better to be safe than soory. It will not hurt that amp to pull the fuses on the bad channel.

That is a funny story! It's amazing what we used to get away with as kids back in the day. Nowadays every kid has a helmet, bubblewrap suit and CPS on their speeddail:rolleyes:

Agree, I didn't look at that like that.
