Yeah, that Oppo will probably be 3-4 times as much. That said, the Oppo will also have reference level video upscaling.

This Memorex unit is definitely an entry level unit, but it does all that most need for a good bluray experience.

You have to take this Blu-Ray with a grain of salt. This won't be appropriate for most of us on this forum. If you want tons on options, format compatibility, and the best upconversion chip available, this player is not for you. If you are like G's daughter and need a player for your Blu-Rays, this is it.

Other than not being 2.0, it should be just as compatible as any other blu-ray player, and have similar upscaling. None of them so far have great upscaling, or play any formats except Blu, DVD, and CD.

I'm waiting for the Oppo, although it's rumored to be $599, it should play everything, and will have the same upscaling as the HD983.

Lowest blu-ray player I've seen for black friday is wally's at $128 for a magnavox. Good indication of where the cheap blu-ray player price point is going. These kind of players have already been hovering just below 200 bucks for a while now.

Except DVD-A
