View Full Version : Specific requirements for a test CD
Greetings
I'm looking for some specific requirements in a test cd. What I would like to have are sustained audio tones at exactly the same SPL in frequency ranges in the audible range up to about 5000 Hz. Most importantly 16 Hz to about 250 in stepped increments of maybe 2 Hz. Can you guys point me to a cd to purchase or reputable on-line downloads?
Thanks for the help.
This is close.

I'm shocked you can't find it. You're using the right term already: test tones.
Thanks guys. I posted this thread then I forgot where I put it. The 70's. Jeeez....
Yes, I can find many test CD's but I depend on you guys to help me pick truly worthy materials and I surely appreciate it too.

The RealTraps was the perfect place to start. Just what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch.

No problem.
I use winISD to turn my computer into a generator. Can do sine waves from 20Hz to 20K in steps of 1 Hz and I've measured its accuracy(better than 0.1%).
A laptop can be your friend.

It may not be exactly what you need, but download the dvd torrent shown here in this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=742969 and it is great for both 2 channel and surround ( Has 2 different sections for each ) . It uses a GUI interface , so it needs a dvd player and a monitor for use...but it works fantastic.
Here is the actual torrent link from the thread....the thread actually explains how to make the dvd from the torrent file. http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3666592/AudioTestDVDv2

I'm only just getting started with it, but check out Remote EQ Wizard (REW) at hometheatershack.com (http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/rew-forum/). Its free you just have to join the forum.
It can generate test tones and sweeps, and if you have the appropriate equipment (laptop/desktop, sound card with line in, SPL meter) you can measure the rooms response to those tones to help you get that flat response.
Is there no consern about reproductive quality when you are trying to generate a 70db SPL signal from a laptop's speakers?

If you're referring to using REW, you pipe the signal to your preamp/avr. All the sound is played via your system's speakers not the laptop's. The only purpose for the computer is to connect the mic to for the app to analyze/graph it.
