I have an old JBL PSW-D112 subwoofer box. The thing is a monster. Amplifier failed long time ago.
I replaced the speaker with the one from JBL S120PII studio series (450W or 500W RMS rated speaker).

I am planning to buy a new plate amplifier, replace the whole rear panel with the new MDF piece, then make a cut-out (and I'll keep the port).

What plate amps do people use?

1). I wanted to get Dayton 500W amp from parts express when it was on sale yesterday, but the shipping of $72 USD really kills the deal for me. There is one on ebay, so I may still have a chance to use it.

2). BASH amps?

3). Rythmik Audio?

4). Stealth Acoustics H series? (They have a distributor in Toronto!).

Any experience with the above amps? Any suggestions? Preferences?

Thanks!

Here's a suggestion that you may want to entertain. You could try calling Polk and seeing if they would sell a DSW plate amp. I have no clue whether or not they'll do it but I do know this, it doesn't cost anything to ask.

Just a thought. Good luck with whatever your decision may be.

+1 on the last idea. If you can swing the Dayton, it's a good choice. The Bash would do you fine also on the budget side.

The PartsExpress ebay store has the 1000W Dayton @ BIN $320. You could bid and hope to stay low-or BIN with the MS 30% cashback and net it at $224. Its only $13 for shipping. And since you're buying direct, you get the 90 day warranty.
They also have a rack mount version you could try and seal the back of the sub. This way you can use the amp elsewhere if you wanted to.

Oh and if you decided to buy it from the PE website (nor refurb via ebay), you get free shipping

Free shipping is for US only, unfortunately. They want $61-72 (depending on service) for shipping to Canada.
Btw, what is their user id on ebay? Thanks!

Edit: found it! http://stores.ebay.com/Parts-Express-Electronics
