I'm guessing not so much because people who are serious enough about their audio probably buy lsi or better.. But I'm not about to not ask since this is what I'll have for a while. So, are there any upgrades? Tweeters, crossover.. Anything?

The XO's on all mass produced speakers will benefit from new caps, and resistors;) Pull one and see what you have.

Ben,

Are there any guides available for doing something like this? I am comftable soldering but I'd prefer not to remove speakers until I can locate it. I've just never undertaken such a project on speakers and any tips would be appreciated.

Just pull the terminal cup, and post some pics. There are plenty of guys here to help.
Merry Christmas!

I always wondered if the 10s would benifit by a sealed section for
the mid woofer like the 12s.

It would be a pretty easy mod, but you would just have to work with the size constraints of the stacked boards. Are you handy with a soldering iron?

The XO's on all mass produced speakers will benefit from new caps, and resistors;) The one in the pics looks like it could use a makeover.Cheap electrolytics and it appears ferritel core coils abound.:eek:Hopefully there is a film cap hidden in there for the tweeter.

I have soldered computer hardware so I can't see how this could be more difficult except for the lack of instructions on working with this hardware. When I get home in a couple weeks I'll peek inside the cabinet and get a feel since I've never built or modded any speaker hardware before.

The electrolytics in the RTi's have some pretty high values ... there is a 400uF, a 130uF and some other values. Be prepared to spend about $150-200 per speaker on the 10s's to replace all those caps with polys.

Mundorf now offers Audio Grade electrolytics.

Click on Mundorf and scroll all the way down. I used a MLytic in parallel with a Mundorf film cap and there didn't appear to be any degradation in sound.
