Well here's the thing the only store that has available RTi A5 / a7 is J&R and their demo hooks ups sucks! so I really can't tell which one I would love to get. My current steup: 50"inch sony • cs2 • RTi 70 fronts and fxi 5 rears & Velodyne dps-12, I use 80% HT & 10% music.
I really need some help here because I can't go anywhere else to demo them and every time I think I made up my mind about one some one gives me advice and say no that speaker (A5/A7) will not sound good. (Called polk support they told me not to pair A5 with CSi A6, I should pair the CSi A6 with A7 but some people say the A7 is a lil too bassy
P.s my WIFE told me to make a damn good choice so it will last a while. lolol.
Or else the gun comes out!!
Sorry for posting this again but I have no way of testing properly.

If the room is medium to large I'd say go with the larger A7's. I find with my A/V receiver the bass is in fact a little light so I have two 10" subs to give movies the full effect. The same speakers are on a switch for two channel listening on a Carver pre/amp setup and the bass is perfect. Very controlled and ariculate. I have owned my A7's just over a year now and absolutely love them. With your Velodyne sub the A7's will rock. Incidently I used to have the RTi70's for fronts and when I got the A7's I moved the 70's to the back for surround duty and they sound excellent there. They integrated seamlessly with the A7's as did my csi40 center. For both HT and two channel I love the A7's and no I don't work for Polk. Merry Christmas and good luck. Welcome to Polk by the way.

There is no reason in the world to trade at all. The RTi 70 and the A5 are bloody near identical tonally and frankly, other than the fact that the RTi 70 isn't as pretty (I have the RT800i) it probably images a tad better. The A7 won't very well voice match with the rest of your speakers as it focus is bottom end but you have a sub; you'll loose mid voice, something the twin 6.5s deliver exceptionally well, which is more important to both HT and music when you are already running a LFE (dedicated subwoofer) channel. Now, the A7 in cherrywood with the grill off is the sexiest speaker I've ever seen. Beautiful.......but the choices you are looking at are not doing much to upgrade the well matched system that you already have.
My system is very simular to yours, check my sig below.
Let me add this as evidance:
I used to run an older RT7 bookshelf as the surrounds in my RT800i (as simular to your fronts as it gets without being them) and a CS400i center. In doing a test tone, with that system it was hugely evident that the tembre between the RT7 and the front 3 were hugely different. I just traded my 12 year old RT7's for the new FXi A6 Surrounds and the tembre is bloody near identical....this shows how little change there has been in the incarnations of our speaker lines which you current set up is in between mine and the new.

Just wondering what you use the other 10% left over for?

LOL I saw that earlier and just had to laugh at it. I think the 10% is used just sitting at the system itself. LOL

I just got the A5's and I am truly in love! I was thinking of the A7's and read what the experts had to say about the bass. I already had the PSW505 sub so it fits nicely with the A5's . Beautiful mids in my opinion. Also can't beat the those sweat ass prices on Polk-ebay!!! Again, I'm in love again with sound!
So far as demos, I have to agree with you regarding few credible retail resources to make sound choices. J&R was the most help for me to eliminate particular models. Lets not talk about those shameful chains like Circuit City. Those little Fire Dog bastards don't know anything and they are arrogant. I'd feel better if they merged with Target, they already have the red polos and the average "sales person" is about 16 years old. It really sucks because folks like me trying to step up their sound game from the "home theater in a box" have few resources to turn to. These forums, reviews and the internet at large is all a neophyte really has. Good Luck.

Quick questions on speaker confusion. Is a pair of RTi10 and a CSiA6 a reasonable match?
Thanks for the answer.

fdesormeaux, you should submit your own separate post instead of leeching onto this post with your question.

The RTi10s and CSi A6 would be an excellent match.
