RTi A3 or LSi 7 with Marantz 7002

I just replaced my 9 year Polk 5.1 setup with a def tech soundbar (SSA50). I plan to run the SSA50 off my 5 year old Marantz 7002 for HT. I also just got a Squeezebox Duet and am hoping to beef up my listening time with a seperate set of stereo bookshelves. At the moment, I plan to run the RTiA3s or the LSi7s on the B channel so I would only be driving the two speakers at one time. From reading other posts, my guess is people are going to recommend the A3s. The price on the LSi7s is very attractive right now.

Which would you choose given my setup?

I guess that depends :D

I can't tell from the on-line specs if the 7002 can drive a 4-ohm load, which the LSi7 speaker will be.

The RTiA3 will be easier to drive from your 7002 and the LSi7 would certainly benefit from a good quality external amp.

And what is your listening preference...loud...soft...rock...jazz...etc?

I owned a set of LSi7s myself....as well as the RTiA3s.

For me, I preferred the RTiA3s given my listening habits.

I just made a post on another forum about the LSi7s with a beer analogy.

I'd say that the LSi7s are like a deep amber beer - rich and roasty on the palate.

Whereas the RTiA3s were like a good IPA - crisp and clean and open.

Mmmm....beer....

There is a veritable glut of LSi7s on the Polk Ebay outlet - all going for the same set price.

I think that when there were fewer of them available for 'bid' the prices were better, eh? We both made out! :p

Edit: I have a SR7200 not an 7002. (wish I had the 7002)

For music, my favorite album released in the last few years is The Shins - Wincing the Night Away. So, mostly rock/pop/alternative. I also like electronica like Zero 7. I have a lot of 80s and 90s new wave/punk/alternative ripped to lossless from CD.

I like beer. I would say I prefer a more well rounded beer than an IPA but living in California have to enjoy them to fit in.

I'm somewhat interested in checking out the 7s or 9s on my 5003. The ohm load is what I'm worried about. I plan to call Marantz tomorrow morning to inquire.. I'll make sure to ask about the 7200 also.

I called and they said both of our receivers can run 4 ohm speakers.

They will benefit more from a external amp. If your leaning toward the lsi series I would step up and get the LSI 9's
