Title says it all, why.

I replace a wireless phone which is pretty old and causing trouble. It had a battery in the base, so the phone could work if the power was out. New phones couldn't find one which did this today why?

You still have a home phone? Do you still write checks too?

A cell phone is not always the most economical option. Depends on location.

Yes I feel my JOB depends on it. Besides I hate my cell phone. But no I don't write checks or mail anything anymore.

Where does Canada fit into the State of Florida? I ditched landline many years ago but have identified where my pedastal is located in the BIZARRE event I'd actually need one.

It was positioned as a relative statement. Merry Christmas Mark.

How do you get things which like phone line to work?

Alarm system

Directv Box (but I think non DVR's would work ok without one)

But from what I read Mark, you're a cable user. Why do I think that, I seen a report DSL users use phone and small dish satellite.

'Light Bulb'

I forgot about the alarm so it exists but certainly not in use for any voice capability. It doesn't suprise me that you dislike cellphones.

Not everyone needs or wants a cell phone. I know I don't. Threw mine out a couple of years ago. Never really understood the need to make or recieve a call no matter where you are, in fact I found it quite annoying.

Disney, I keep one of my wireless phones plugged into one of my computers battery backups. Works great when the power is out.

It's funny reading all this. I have a landline with long distance service but I have absolutley no idea what the PH# to it is. I also actually have a phone somewhere, in a closet I think not sure though

The only reason I have it is that It was required as part of the package deal with cable tv and internet service. In reality I only use a cell phone, for me not only is it convienent but required since I am on call 24/7 and have been for years.

I considered buying an UPS just for the phone but most are UGLY / Grey and this would be in my kitchen on a counter top. :(

And what I realized it may only last 40 Min's or so where the base with a battery could last a few hours at least.

A phone doesn't put much of a load on a UPS, it has outlasted any power outage we have ever had. It would probably run for a day or two. I wouldn't want a UPS in the kitchen either. I just have one phone on the UPS in the computer room, and since it's wireless, I can use it in any room, isn't that the point of wireless?

Besides, I only have to use that phone if the power is out, all the other phones work the rest of the time.

Well this will make Mark happy but my cordless phone is my only phone (almost phone free) But I feel I need to plug in a corded phone for those power emergency's. :(

Other then that those max run time on the UPS package doesn't really apply if the theres like no load right?

Right, the smaller the load on the UPS, the longer it will run.

just get a cheap corded phone to use if the power goes out.. You could even keep it in the box until you needed it.. lol

It is a Vtech model, bought it on Woot for them. Has a wall mounted main base with battery backup and two remote charging bases.

So 3 phones in all, One in the kitchen, one in the family room and one in their bedroom.

You can't replace it today well with a battery in the base that is.
