I found my dad's Dynakit Stereo 70 tube amp & need to know how much it's worth. I plan to sell it here in LA and have to get it done in the next few days so your help would be greatly appreciated!

Please check out the pics and lemme know.

Thanks very much!

About $350.00 in original condition and working.

I'd like to test it. Would it be ok for me to just turn it on, w/o it being connected to anything?

No, do not turn it on without being connected to speakers or a dummy load.

When was the last time it was on? If, a long time ago it should be brought up on a Variac.

Thanks very much. I was about to turn it on, so you saved me. It probably hasn't been switched on in maybe 30 years.

I could hook it up to some speakers, but wouldn't be able to play anything on it. & What is a Variac?

Should I just sell it, as is? & If so, for how much?

Dont just plug it in. It should be brought up on a Variac to control the voltage so you dont burn anything up.

By looking at the pics I would say atleast 2 of the tubes are bad. They may all be, and probably some leaky caps somewhere also.

In the shape its in, with probably needing a rebuild you could get anywhere from $200-300 depending.

Ive looked at the pics again and even though it doesnt look to be plugged in, I swear a see filaments burning in the top of a few tubs, maybe just the flash from the camera. But no matter, If youre just trying to flip it, dont fire it up. Just list with it needing a rebuild and you should be good.

(Disclaimer; I mention rebuild because of the age of the unit with parts that do go bad over time. This is in no way a testament to building or owning them. Only pointing out the obvious.)

Thanks, Dave. Yeah, I didn't turn it on & it's been 30 years since it's been on.

So, you think I just offer it for sale in "as is" condition?

Dave got it, it's a variable autotransformer used to control the voltage.

You should have no problem selling it in "as in" condition.

BTW, that chassis is suppose to be shiny chrome.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that the chassis could use some cleaning help.

Thanks very, very much, friends. I'm trying to sell off my dad's audio equipment as we prepare for an estate sale and begin wrapping up my childhood home.

Brent, that's got to be a hard thing to go though, best wishes.

I went through similar times a while ago, and honestly it was good and bad.

It was great revisiting the memories as we went through all the stuff accumilated through the years, but sad as we said goodbye to them.

Not to mention its great to see a son helping out their parents these days, sometimes it seems like it just doesnt happen enough anymore.

Best Wishes and a Happy New year to you and your family.

Ok I understand the urge or even need to sell, but think about it, why not restore her to all her glory then play once in a while and think about Dad, afterall, Dad's are cool.

I used to restore antique radios. Woods from the late 20's - early 40's then bakeites up to the early 60's. I have dozens of working radios. I also have a variac and two tube testors and maybe thousands of new caps. Is there a great reason for searching out and restoring antique amps? The prospect has never crossed my mind until this post.
