Carver Amazing Loudspeakers - Silver

I have a pair of Carver - Silver Edition speakers that have never been driven hard, strictly Jazz music. These are a part of my secondary listening system. I enjoyed listening to them last week with some friends but when I turned the system on last night, only a very low almost inaudible sound from the left speaker. Nothing - absolutely nothing - occurred to the system between last week and the dreadful night last night. I know this is very limited information but ANY IDEAS......

I contacted a couple of speaker repair places in the Chicago area and no one wanted to touch the Carvers. to make matters worst, everyone says I can not find parts even if I find someone to do the repair. Anyone with local Chicago recommendations?

If I can not find a suitable solution I will have to sell the speakers as is. My primary system has Martin Logan speakers but they just do not have the same warm sound as the Carvers. I welcome any thoughts, ideas, suggestions.

Could be any number of reasons, so here's a few places to start. Check the fuse(s). Take a look a the crossover, see any burnt parts? The trace leads at the end of your ribbon could be broken.

Thanks for the ideas. Before my initial post reaching out to the group, I did some self-help. I checked the fuse, and wire to the Amp. I have a couple of mono amps on the set-up so I change the left amp to the right speaker and vise-versa with no change in speaker performance. I removed the rear housing and examined the wires and nothing appears out of place, nor did I see anything in the crossover that appeared to be burnt or somehow damaged. Each of my Audio systems throughout my home are under separate Monster Cable line protection. It is a mystery to me because the speakers were performing flawlessly and then the next time I turn the system on nothing. I just hate the thought of possibly trashing some great speakers.

Probably a stupid suggestion....but check the balance on your preamp.

You swapped the amplifiers, but the problem could be originated in the preamp, or even the source. Check all your connections, and swap right/left at the pre, then at the source, etc.

Make sure if the is a A / B selection the it is set right.

Again, the trace leads at the end of your ribbon could be broken. As the ribbon produces most of the sound, everything above 100Hz, the speaker will produce very little sound when the ribbon is not working.

Also, don't trash the speakers. The ribbons and the woofers are still available as are most, if not all of the crossover parts. Hang in there and follow the suggestions above and you'll be back up and running in no time.
