I've been looking into these things as a way to "tweak" my system to improve the sound. These are a couple of the units I'm looking at:
http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1735
and
http://www.phonic.com/en/testers/paa3.html
I was wondering if any of you folks have experience using these tools and if there are any other units I should be considering.
I'm assuming that the terms "Spectrum Analyzer" and "Real Time Analyzer" mean the same thing.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes a spectrum analyzer and an RTA are most likely doing the same thing. Analysis is one thing; correction another.
How about one of these?

Cheap 'n' cheerful. The original version was well-reviewed by audioXpress magazine quite a few years ago.

Had one of these for the band I was in. It worked wonders on the sound in certain rooms.
I haven't tried it in a home setting but may just give it a try at some point.

It would require some additional hardware, but would this do what you want?

I build DIY speakers and I used the calibrated measurement mic and preamp, etc. that I already had, but the program itself is free. I've used it with some success (in conjunction with a Behringer FBQ24/96) to tame some response issues in a church-sound application I was working on. It's been a while and I can't remember exactly how it worked, though. I never used it at home.
