Yamaha receiver settings

I just got a Yamaha 6140. I hooked up to my front speakers and it worked just fine. Then today, I got the center channel and hooked it up. It didn't work. I messed around with the settings and now it works, but I don't think my left front is working. They all work great when I play music through the tuner but not when on dvr viewing. I have been looking through the manual trying different things but haven't found what I need as of yet. I will run the auto setup later. It may be a while before I get all my speakers set up but would like to you the front, center and sub for now. Can anybody help a poor dumb Okie out?

Check you connections 1st off.
Make sure they are clean and secure.
Make sure they are in the right place.......start there see what happenns.
