Anyone heard of folding@home?

I was reading on the net about this and it says its for Stanford. They claim to be using the ps3's cell processor from multiple consoles around the world to get the computing power of a supercomputer or better.

I just thought it was pretty crazy to think how advanced the ps3's processor really is.

The processor is worlds ahead of every gaming system and bluy-ray device on the market.

I thought about signing up for folding@home, but wanted some more feedback from others 1st.

you probably could have done the same thing with the original xbox cpu I'd guess...just not as fast. distributed computing is definitely a cool technology though

To be fair, folding@home works on ANY networked PC with spare CPU cycles. The Cell is an impressive piece of technology, I don't mean to disparage it, just saying that those distributed networking things have been around for far longer than the PS3. Hell, I remember Seti@home when I started college 10 years ago.
