I need 3+ HDMI in....I want it to decode master HD true HD etc....does NOT have to have a preout.

and the max I want to spend is $350...can be new/used/refurbished.

with sales and stuff thats more like a $500 receiver like the onkyo 606 which is what I want to buy but im looking for the best deal...

I know my current receiver the 247 is damn good but its giving me a few problems and only has 2 hdmi ins

First of all, do you like the harman/kardon? Those who do tend to regret changing for something else (though not always), and most people consider h/k and Onkyo very different: if you like one already, then there is a very good chance you will not like the other.

Secondly, has the warranty expired on the 247, and have you consulted the very long thread concerning video issues with that model on the AVS forum? Does it work correctly without passing any video through it? Are you sure it cannot be fixed, or do you just want to forget about the limitations of the two HDMI inputs?

If you like harman/kardon, then the AVR254 will probably do everything you need for just under $400, with free shipping, if you can swing the extra $40 or so. Check pricing on amazon.com. The design has had some improvements too, IMO.

well...I like the receiver alot, but I used to have a onkyo one of the ones that was a boxed set that came with speakers and I liked that too....

I really need 3 or more HDMI in's...I dont want to use a seperate switcher...and the 247 sometimes makes popping sounds when using the dvr.....

I also heard yamaha is not the best matched with polds cause the sound it too bright.

I have never looked into denon or pioneer so I dont know anything about those

Just an FYI...my DirecTV DVR made some of those popping sounds as well with my TV in the bedroom. I changed the HDMI cable and the noise was gone. Not saying that will fix your problem, but it can't hurt to try.:)

Get the Onkyo for better sound quality. You may even be able to get it cheaper than that if you look hard enough. Enjoy.

I personally have a soft spot for Onkyo and would recommend the 606 over the Sony or the HK. I know Curt has a 606 and he is very happy with it, if you don't have the need for pre-outs then I can't see a better deal for what you get for the money than the 606. I have an 806 and it has yet to dissapoint me in any way.

Right, stick with Onkyo 606, but if you have a bit more, try Onkyo 706, has better GUI, 7 band EQ instead of 5 band EQ, THX Select2Plus, and has more confugrations than Onkyo 606. But in the $350 range, take Onkyo 606, I tested myself and its powerful for its price and sounds very good and btw Onkyo are excellents in HT.
