I picked up a used set of the Shotgun S3 ICs and they should be here in a week or so. I was wondering what is the purpose of the adjustable impedence switch? I will be using the IC from my Marantz SACD player to my MF A1 integrated. What should I set the impedence switch to?

What is the input impedance of your MF?

Check the user manual for your amp to see the input impedance on the amp's input section. It looks like 43k ohms from the MF site. You'll see a switch on your cables with low being 5 to 50k ohms, mid being 40 to 100k ohms, and high being 90k ohms and up. You should probably use low, but try mid and see which you prefer.

Haha, is that all there is to it? My manual says it's 43K Ohms. Thanks Ben! :)

I found the three settings to give me a slightly different sound. Obviously you want to know the impedence of the receiving end but beyond that you can tweak the sound if something else is off. I found it best to change the switch after becoming completely familiar (after a few months) with the "proper" setting to see what it affects.
