Anyone had a chance to listen to the new Sennheiser HD800 headphones. The review are good, but these come at a good price - MSRP $1400.

There's a Headfi "member of the trade" that is trying to get a set for the
Dallas headfi meet at the end of the month. I'm hoping they make it in time.
TheFlavorOfTheMonth effect is in full force. All new headphones get good
reviews. Always. It takes a couple of months for the real reviews.
I do have high hopes for them. I've gone down the Stax path, and
the next step up is going to cost a lot more than those do!

Do want. $1400 for cans though? I thought we are in a recession?

I might have to set a few sets of headphones, and my spare amps.:D
But even then, it's not likely I'll buy a set at that price. The hd-650
list is $599. Street price is about $350-$430. And it better be a lot
better than the hd-650. Or the Stax. If we were all fiscally responsible,
there wouldn't be much to talk about!

I'd consider trying them at 50% off list. I'll wait for some rich guy to try them and pay him half... :)

Amen to that. The 800's would be great if funds were unlimited. The 570's are about it for my budget, but not a bad headset.

I do not own headphones and never have. It would be nice to demo some decent headphones one day.

guys,if you want a real treat,, try some Senn's,, 600 or 650's with a tubed headphone amp. I fell into a good deal on a Singlepower,,PTP wiring, and a pair of Senn 600's,,totally changed my opinion of headphones.

Several here have a ASL tube headphone amp with hd-580,600,or 650's.
I really need to get going building my Stax tube amp. I've got some of the parts
stashed away, I need to go get a case and transformer (big dollar item).
SS is ok with the Stax, but tube puts it on a whole other level.

I've still got an ASL/HD650 setup in the house, never get tired of listening to that setup...
