My wife bought a pair of jeans, we requested the total incl shipping. How long do they have to get back to us? will we get dinged for non payment? after a certain time?

Depends how the auction is setup. Does the seller have a flat rate or calculated shipping in the auction? If so, you probably just need to pay that amount. Ebay checkout will add it up for you. If there was no shipping stated, you need to wait for an invoice. Did you use the Ebay link to request an invoice or did you just send a message to the seller?

I wouldn't worry too much. Most sellers want to get paid, so they will let you know. A seller is not allowed to file a non-payer until at least 7 days.

as was said, no worries about nonpayment if you have requested A total; and if you used ebay's message service you have documentation if perchance you are dinged somehow to have the issue reversed.

Good to know, I used the link to request total. It only posted shipping in the US but not to Canada. That's the quote I'm waiting on.
