So at work I was talking with a guy about receivers and speakers and he was telling me about the TV he was going to buy and was wondering if he was to buy a Yamaha rcvr and Polk speakers would it all work together. Knowing that back in his day it was much better for all your gear to be the same brand and such. Well as he was giving me his back story he started talking about his tape player and how it wouldn't work with any other brand of receiver when he looks at me and says “well your probably too young to know about cassettes" and then goes into explaining what they were and what they looked like. I look young but I’m not that young. I almost starting laughing out loud but kept my composure and let him know I remember cassettes and owned quite a few in my early years starting out :)

out a smile on my face for the rest of the day

Yammie and RTI's aren't a good match. Better get him pointed toward
a Denon. Of course, I had a similar experience in reverse. I had someone
ask me if my headphone amp was my first tube gear. I remember when
everything in the house had tubes! My first stereo setup was a tube BSR
all in one, turntable, amp and fold out removable speakers. Not much, but
it really did sound good. My mom had her old GE tube am radio with the classic
early 50's plastic case forever.

He just picked up the RM75 package (http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/rm2008/#rm75), replaced an old bose system. The bass module quit working

Not kidding. Although the newer series speakers seem to work much better than the RTI10 and 8's

Nah, they might not know who was President then, but the kids know the Beatles.
My kids, anyway.:p

I think I still have some 8-tracks laying around. My cousin's first car (about 9 years back) had an 8-track player in it. He hailed me from his knees when I gave him an 8-track of Santana's Moonflower.

A friend of mine was on line at a super market and there was a magazine with Paul McCartney on the cover. He heard a couple of girls behind him say "did you know that Paul McCartney used to be in the Beatles?" That made him feel old.

Heh heh. I remember when eight tracks were cutting edge.

The back seat with Beth P. and some Boone's Farm. Savoy Brown blasting the night away.

Crap.

I AM old!

I remember tapes but I don't know anything about 8 tracks...

What's really weird (atleast for me) is remembering 5.25" floppies and having a computer with a 400 mb hard drive and 2 mb of ram.

Funny stuff. I find myself caught in an in-between stage at the moment. Older gentlemen take one look at me and assume I'm too young to recall 'tapes' or 'records'. Meanwhile, teenagers consider me to be a geezer because the iTouch wasn't around when I was their age. Go figure! hehe

Contrary to popular belief, (and some tuning on my end) and the addition of a 2 channel amp to power my A5's. I quite like my combination of all Polk speakers and my RXV 861.
Very full sounding.... mind you I think my speakers are finally burnt in so maybe that makes a difference in brightness?

Knowing what I have l learned on this forum I probably would have steered away from my Yammy BUT, in hindsight I am not disappointed.

Been there, done that. I was wearing a Ringo Starr baseball hat from the concert I went to, and my boss, who was maybe 25-26 yo asked "Whose that?":(
My response was..."You're kidding, right?"

And for the record, I was a wee lad when STEREO was 'new'

The newer series is different than the RTI10's for example.
I've got a Yammie and the 10's, NOT the best match. But I seldom
listen to anything but 2-channel. HT is used by the rest of the family.

Maybe I am old. Someone remembers 5 1/4" floppies and 400M drives. I remember programming on dual Floppy machines (360K floppies) with 256k of RAM (640K was the limit). I also recall reading a PC Mag laying around the office where Bill Gates was talking about the prices of PCs falling and saying "now you can get a 10M drive for around $5000".

I remember 8 tracks from my older brothers. I use to own a reel to reel and I am just now getting into HT by selling all my 2 channel stuff.

Sadly I now feel old. :(

I remember all that and also use to work on HP industrial computers that had 225LB hard drives. I am glad all that is behind us.

I grew up with Advents, Dynaco tube amps and later Marantz sand, Roberts R2R and vinyl(Philips TT). I helped my father install an 8-track in more than one car/truck before cassettes took over.

My uncle, who was the doctor that delivered me, was into McIntosh and Klipsch....one of the only ways I ever listened to Klipsch and enjoyed them. Tubes are the only wat to go with horns, IMHO.

I don't remember those Pablo, I just remember my old computer. I think I was 5 when we had that, I only remember the drive being 400 mb because I filled it up and couldn't put anymore games on it :( It was great for reader rabbit haahaa.
