I was watching "Master and Commander" over the weekend and turned the volume up to around -3 (loud but not crazy loud) for a few scenes. Later on while watching TV, I noticed that my center vm20 sounded very funny (tinny). I took the cover off and noticed that both the mid/woofers weren't vibrating or making noise. I called Polk and they are sending me out 2 woofers.
I took the woofers out and couldn't see any physical damage. I just hope that it is actually the woofers that are bad and not something on the circuit board. I guess I'll have to wait a few days until they arrive to find out - or is there a way for me to test? I've only had the speakers for a few weeks..hoping that it was just defective and not "abuse".

Make sure the VM20 is set to 'small' in your receiver's bass management menu. I would use a crossover point of 60Hz or higher.

The sound was amazing while it lasted (sub is must). I'm happy with the speakers - they do a good job with both movies and music.

Keep the volume control down....As Dirty Harry used to say,
" A mans got to know his limitations".

The VM20's cannot shake no bass, they have like 2.5" drivers.
You need a Sub with them.

x2 I don't think bass output is really the VM20's strong suit. From what I've gathered, the VM30's do alright on the low end, but nothing to write home about. A sub is definitely a necessity.
