What's wrong with your old one?

sounds a bit metallic, looks like somebody tried spray adhesive to make a repair and it ate the styrofoam

I hate to do this in a wanted thread. You may want to make a help needed thread. Can you pull the driver and see if anything is loose. You may also want to(should) apply some sound deadening material to the basket of the PR's spokes.

looked it over good yesterday. there is no support left in it and even the slightest movement causes the noise. there are weights on the bottom of the styrofoam, which leads me to believe they were balanced at the factory to optimize performance. if not for that, I would attempt to repair them myself

I have one that I believe works, but has marks from someone's cat.

First, find out if you can fix yours, then we can talk about the ugly one I have here.
