Does it make any difference what type (coax, RCA) or guage of wire I use to connect my PSW111 subwoofer to my Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K? I am using a basic Sony coaxial cable http://www.target.com/Sony-Coaxial-Digital-Audio-Cable/dp/B000JWNP4W and I don't seem to get much sound out of it.
Thanks!

Nope, suggest looking at monoprice.com. I use theirs and they work great.
Might check sub channel out on AVR to make sure it is set at least at -5 and the gain/volume on sub is set at least 1/3 way up.
Could have bad cable or connector on sub or AVR.

Is -5 a higher signal than +5 (+ vs -)?

Bae, +5 on the VSX-1018AH-K is higher than -5. I think he was trying to tell you to make sure the SW Channel Level was atleast -5 or more. I have the Pioneer VSX-9130THX-K and use (close your eyes veterans) Monster Cable SW cable. It runs my (crappy HTIB) sub. Make sure the direction on the cable is right, if there is one. If it still doesn't work I would put the sub close to the AVR and test it with just a speaker wire or RCA conection, if you have some spare. If it works then the Digital Cable is bad I would guess. Try monoprice.com for cables like thsmith said. Others say Blue Jeans cables or Signals are very good too. I have never used any of them, but after joining the forums here, I now plan to, when the wife let's me, lol.
