RTI 10's wiring help ASAP!

I think im doing something wrong. I took the postive and negatives from both speakers and put them into the reciver but the speakers are only really playing the tweeter and the smaller woofer, the 2 big woofers are not even moving or giving any sound. what am i doing wrong?

danny, a little more info is needed. type of avr, sound format, source, wire type. could be numerous reasons for no bass output

it sounds like you or someone may have removed the metal jumpers that go between the top and bottom speaker connectors on the back of your RTI10's... replace them with speaker wire instead.. red to red, black to black.. then see if you get sound out of them.

Touchee Danger boy, that is exactly what I was thinking as I read his post. Hook up the jumpers (if you accidently removed them) or use speaker wire like he suggested.

no actually those metal jumpers are still there.
Well I have a Yamaha VSX-815 receiver( maybe this receiver sucks, its from my old little setup)
and a Polk audio PSW-505 subwoofer but I not running speakers through it.
I am also using 18gauge wiring( maybe that could be it aswel.) I just dont want to have to guess rather than just fix the problem at once. thanks

also check the speaker settings in your receiver.. if they are set to small for your front speakers.. you will likely not be getting any or much bass sent to them. change to large instead.. that will give you more bass and should be a full range setting.

check that next. if that isn't the problem. let us know. there are several most tests to run to figure this problem out.

Remove the jumpers altogether and hook up the speaker wire directly to the LOWER binding posts only. Do you have a muffled sound now? Both speakers?

They setting is set to LARGE for front. I have asked a few people and they all have said that my receiver is the problem. what do you think? Its a Pioneer VSX-815

even if the receiver is the problem.. you should still be getting sound from the other drivers in each speaker.

I do get sound from them but its like, minimal. And also music doesnt sound nice and crisp it sounds kind of muffled

just very odd that he's not getting sound from what now sounds like his tweeters. first it was only getting sound from tweeters, now it sounds muffled, so sounds to me now his tweeters aren't working.

very strange. Unless somehow he's got them hooked up to the wrong speaker connections on the back of his receiver.. like surround channel connections or something like that.

The communication in this thread needs a definite improvement in order to get the issue resolved.

I was having the same problem with my RTi10's when I first bought them. It sounded like there just wasn't enough power and that the big woofers weren't working. I removed the metal jumpers, ran speaker wire from the top terminals on the speakers to my front terminals on my receiver and then ran a second set of wire from the bottom set of terminals on the speaker to the surround back terminals on my receiver and it sounds great now. Maybe try giving that a shot if you have the open spots on your receiver.

its def. the crossover posts i had the same problem with apair of rti6's when i hooked up monster bannana plugs i accidently thru out the red and black screws and the tweeters were no longer in the loop so make sure the posts are there and srewed down 4 times
