Despite how much I hate Mel Gibson as a person, Patriot is a great movie and definitely fits in my top 15 war movies.

I gotta add the Deer Hunter, though more War/Drama. Hate to say it but really like the Green Beret's with John Wayne. Not received very well by audience's upon release in 1968, height of the anti-war movement.

"Bridge on the River Kwai", only because it won 7 Oscars. Back when they meant something.
"Uncommon Valor", and "Behind Enemy Lines" Although I didn't like Hackmans character in 'Behind', playing a political flag officer, fretting over the rules, when in REAL life, he wasn't exactly a 4.0 Marine:D

Obieone beat me to Bridge on the River Kwai. Absolute classic.
It's a shame the movie based on the book "Ghost Soldiers" wasn't better than it turned out to be, as that is one of the better war books I have read to date.
And I'd have to put Band of Brothers #1 on my list. Absolutely phenomenal series, even if it wasn't a movie.
I'd also add Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.

The Pianist, great WWII drama.
Dog soldiers!
Not really a war movie (well kind of), more of a horror movie, but i love it.
